Ring Alarm Panic Button (2nd Gen) FAQs
The Panic Button² will only operate with a Ring Alarm or Alarm Pro Base Station and requires a compatible Ring Protect Plan subscription.
How Do I Remove the Back Cover of My Panic Button?
To remove the back cover, carefully twist the top counter-clockwise until the top line moves to the unlock symbol. You may find it easier to remove the back cover if you place the Panic Button² between the palms of your hands, then twist.
How Do I Use the Panic Button?
In the event of an emergency, you must open the safety cover, then press and hold the button for 3 seconds. After holding the button for 3 seconds, the Panic Button² sends a signal to your Ring Alarm or Alarm Pro Base Station. The Base Station and Keypad siren will sound (for panic and fire signals only) and the monitoring service will be notified if you have signed up for a Ring Protect Pro subscription and opted into professional monitoring.¹
What Happens When I Press the Panic Button?
Depending on which panic alarm type you selected, pressing your Panic Button² will sound your Base Station and Keypad siren (for panic and fire signals only) or only flash its LED lights (Medical Panic Button). Ring account owners and Shared Users will receive a push notification.* If you are professionally monitored,¹ the monitoring center will follow the appropriate response plan, attempt to verify an emergency is occurring, and then request dispatch on your behalf.

Where Can I Place the Panic Button?
Place the Ring Panic Button² in any area of your home where you feel it may be needed in an emergency. This means you can mount it to the wall next to the bed, place it on the desk in an office, or keep it any other area of the home where you might want an extra bit of peace-of-mind. With a Panic Button in the room, you’ll know that in the event of an emergency you can sound the alarm and request help immediately.
NOTE: Do not place your Panic Button near water. Keep in mind that the Panic Button is only intended for indoor use.

How Far Can the Panic Button Be from the Base Station?
Your Panic Button² should be placed within 250 feet (76 meters) of your Ring Alarm or Alarm Pro Base Station. If necessary, use a Ring Alarm Range Extender. The Range Extender can be plugged directly into an outlet, ideally between your Base Station and the Panic Button.
How Can I Test the Panic Button (2nd Generation) Without Summoning Authorities?
IMPORTANT: If you have a Panic Button² and test it without turning off professional monitoring,¹ you will trigger a panic alarm and local authorities may arrive at your home.
First, put your Ring Alarm in self-monitored mode:

To test, press the button for 3 seconds. When you press the button, the siren will sound. To turn off the siren, open the Ring app and tap Disarm* or enter your pin on the Keypad and press the Disarm button.

How Do I Remember What Type of Alarm My Panic Button Will Trigger When I Press It?
If you decided to change your Panic Button² setting, use the included stickers to keep track of what type of alarm will be enabled when pressing the button. Peel and stick the corresponding sticker on the Panic Button. You can also check the Ring app by tapping Main Menu > Devices > Security then select your Panic Button from the list of devices to view settings. On the Panic Button's device dashboard there is a "Panic Selection" field that displays the alarm type for the button.
Is There a Panic Button Function on the Ring Alarm Keypad?
Yes. On the Ring Keypad (2nd Generation), press and hold the Police button for 3 seconds to trigger the panic alarm. If you have a Keypad (1st Generation), you can trigger the panic alarm by pressing and holding the X and √ buttons for 3 seconds.
Will the Panic Button Set Off the Alarm Whether or Not the Ring Alarm is Armed?
Yes. Pressing the Panic Button will result in an alarm no matter what mode the Ring Alarm or Alarm Pro Base Station is in.
Will the Monitoring Center Call if the Panic Button is Triggered, and Can it be Canceled?
Professional monitoring¹ is required to request emergency help 24/7. If you answer the call from the monitoring center, you can cancel the request before authorities are dispatched.
Can I Add Multiple Panic Buttons to My Ring Alarm?
Yes. Your Ring Alarm or Alarm Pro can support and connect multiple Panic Buttons.²
Can the Panic Button Be Installed Outside?
No. The Panic Button is designed for indoor use only.
How Is the Panic Button (2nd Generation) Powered?
The Panic Button is powered using two lithium CR2032 batteries. Since the Panic Button has no power cord, it can be placed anywhere it's needed as long as it is within range of the Base Station (250 feet / 76 meters line of sight).
What are the Dimensions of the Panic Button?
The Panic Button is 2.45 inches (62.4 mm) in diameter and .82 inches (21 mm) in height.
How Long Does the Panic Button Battery Last?
Expected battery life is up to 3 years with the included batteries. Battery life is dependent on usage, environment, and other factors.
