Wifi Security Protocols for Your Ring Devices

It is recommended, for safety, that you use a password to connect your Ring products to a network/s.

Additionally, for extra security, there are a few different standards for your router, depending on its age and manufacturer.

WEP, WPA, WPA2, and WPA3 are wifi security protocols that routers might use to secure connections to your devices. These standards help keep your data protected, and help secure your Ring devices’ data on the wifi network.

WPA2 balances strong encryption with broad compatibility and will work with every Ring product. Currently, Ring products are not compatible with WPA3.

WEP is the oldest and least secure of these standards. It was officially retired in 2004, and you should not use WEP with any Ring device. Newer devices, such as the Ring Video Doorbell 4, do not support this standard.

To find out how to switch your wifi network to WPA2 security, consult the router’s owner’s manual. If your router is provided or serviced by your internet provider, you can contact them to find out how to switch to WPA2.
