Troubleshooting Panic Button (2nd Gen)

Having issues with your Ring Alarm Panic Button (2nd Generation)? Follow these troubleshooting steps to help resolve them.

If Your Panic Button (2nd Generation) Won’t Connect

  • Move the Panic Button closer to the Alarm or Alarm Pro Base Station.
  • Add a
    between the Panic Button and the Base Station. The Range Extender helps extend and expand the Base Station’s Z-Wave network, allowing for greater range and signal strength for all compatible devices at your location.
  • Open the cover (see pic below) and briefly press the button on the front of the device (do not hold it down because this could trigger the panic alarm).
    • If it blinks green three times, it is ready to connect to the Base Station.
    • If it blinks green once, it is connected and communicating with your Base Station.
    • If it blinks red once, it is unable to communicate with the Base Station.

Still Won’t Connect? Remove then Re-Add Your Panic Button

You might have to remove your Panic Button and then re-add it to your Ring Alarm.

  1. In the Ring app, tap the main menu, then tap
    Devices
    , then tap
    Alarm or Alarm Pro Base Station.
    Select the Panic Button you wish to remove.
  2. From the Panic Button’s dashboard tap
    Device Settings
    (gear icon), then tap the
    Remove
    button.
  3. Holding the Panic Button in one hand, use your other hand to carefully twist and remove the back cover.
  4. Press and hold the pinhole reset button using the end of a paperclip or similar tool.
  5. The Ring app will confirm that your Panic Button has been successfully removed.
  6. Now, re-add the Panic Button to your alarm system by tapping on
    Set Up a Device
    from the main menu and following the onscreen instructions.

NOTE: While repeating the setup process, when you’re prompted to pull the battery tab use a small tool, such as a micro screwdriver, to carefully remove the coin cell batteries from the casing of your Panic Button, then reinsert them.

If You’re Still Having Trouble Connecting Your Panic Button

  1. In the Ring app, tap the main menu, then tap
    Devices
    , then tap
    Alarm or Alarm Pro Base Station.
    Select the Panic Button (2nd Generation) you wish to remove.
  2. From the Panic Button’s dashboard tap
    Device Settings
    (gear icon), then tap
    Advanced Options
    .
  3. Tap
    Remove Failed Device.
  4. The app will confirm when your Panic Button has been successfully removed.
  5. Now you’ll need to
    your Panic button by following the instructions below.

How to Factory Reset Your Panic Button

NOTE: This will remove the device from your Alarm or Alarm Pro Base Station and reset the device to the original default settings.

  1. Remove the cover from the device.
  2. Press and hold the pinhole reset button using the end of a paperclip or similar tool until the LED light flashes green (hold for at least 10 seconds).
  3. Continue holding down the pinhole reset button until the LED light turns red.
  4. Place the back cover back on the device.
  5. Now re-add the Panic Button to your Ring Alarm by tapping on
    Set Up a Device
    from the main menu and following the onscreen instructions.
