What is the Ring Outdoor Smart Plug?

With the Ring Outdoor Smart Plug, you can control your lighting from anywhere via the Ring app or a compatible Alexa-enabled device. With dual outlet control, you can set schedules and control devices plugged into each of the two available outlets separately via the app. A Ring Bridge is required to enable smart features and in-app controls.

What kind of devices can be connected to the Ring Outdoor Smart Plug?

The Ring Outdoor Smart Plug can be used to control any standard plug-in device such as string lights, outdoor lighting, water fountains, or other outdoor devices.

What equipment is required for installation?

The Ring Outdoor Smart Plug must be plugged into a GFCI outlet and should hang at least two feet off the ground with the plugs facing downward. A Ring Bridge is also required to enable smart features and in-app controls.

What is a Ring Bridge?

Ring Bridge is the central hub that integrates Ring Outdoor Smart Plugs into your Ring system. The Bridge connects to the Ring app using your home Wi-Fi network and connects to other Ring Smart Lighting products using a proprietary long-range communication protocol. With a Bridge, you can control whole groups of lights, sensors, and plugs at once and be notified via the Ring app when any Ring Smart Lighting device senses movement.

Can I have each outlet in the Outdoor Smart Plug assigned to different Groups?

Yes. During setup or later you can choose to assign plug A and B to different groups of simply duplicate the settings of plug A on plug B.

Do I need to assign my Outdoor Smart Plug to a group?

No. Your Outdoor Smart Plug can operate without being in a group.

Do I need a Ring Protect subscription to use Ring Outdoor Smart Plug?

No. Ring Outdoor Smart Plug provides smart controls functionality with or without a Ring Protect subscription. If, however, you have devices such as motion detectors or cameras linked to your Outdoor Smart Plug and want your linked devices to record and save video images for any camera that was triggered, you will need a Ring Protect subscription.
