Quick Replies is a smart doorbell feature available for most models of Ring doorbells, in the US and Canada. Quick Replies allows your visitors to interact with your Ring doorbell, even if you don’t answer your door. Think of it as an answering machine for your door.
Quick Replies is being rolled out incrementally in the Ring app and will be available with the following doorbells:
- Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release/2nd generation)
- Ring Video Doorbell 2
- Ring Video Doorbell 3
- Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus
- Ring Video Doorbell 4
- Ring Video Doorbell Wired
- Ring Video Doorbell Pro
- Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2
- Ring Video Doorbell Elite
- Ring Peephole Cam
You can enable or disable Quick Replies at any time in the Ring app. Once the feature is activated, and someone rings your doorbell, the visitor will hear a pre-selected message. Then, the visitor can leave a message. Quick Replies messages show up on timeline as individual events. There’s no subscription required for Quick Replies. However, only Ring Protect Plan subscribers will be able to access and review recordings of Quick Replies interactions in their Event History.
Note: There are some functionality issues with Quick Replies and doorbells that are being used in the Samsung SmartThings environment. Our engineers are working diligently to resolve the situation.

What is Quick Replies?
Quick Replies allows neighbors with most Ring doorbells to choose from a list of six preset responses when they’re not available to answer the door. Think of it as an answering machine for your front door. You can set one automated response and ask a visitor to leave a message.
How does Quick Replies work?
If Quick Replies is turned on in the Ring app, it’s activated 0 to 20 seconds after the visitor has pressed the doorbell and the doorbell sound has stopped playing. Then, the doorbell will play one of the 6 messages that cover most common visitor interactions. Then, your visitor can leave a message. Some of the pre-selected messages may not ask the visitor to leave a message, but sound can still be recorded during the interaction if you are subscribed to a Ring Protect Plan.
What Quick Replies options can I manage?
You can turn Quick Replies on or off, set the activation delay from 0 to 20 seconds, and pre-select a message that will be played to your visitors by default. The pre-selected messages can be chosen individually for each doorbell that you own.
