Frequently Asked Questions

What is Quick Replies?

Quick Replies allows neighbors with most Ring doorbells to choose from preset responses when they’re not available to answer the door. Think of it as an answering machine for your front door. You can set one automated response and ask a visitor to leave a message.

How does Quick Replies work?

If Quick Replies is turned on in the Ring app, it’s activated 0 to 20 seconds after the visitor has pressed the doorbell and the doorbell sound has stopped playing. Then, the doorbell will play one of preset responses and the visitor can leave a message. Some of the pre-selected messages you choose may not ask the visitor to leave a message, but sound can still be recorded during the interaction if you are subscribed to a Ring Protect Plan.

What Quick Replies options can I manage?

You can turn Quick Replies on or off, set the activation delay from 0 to 20 seconds, and pre-select a message that will be played to your visitors by default. The pre-selected messages can be chosen individually for each doorbell that you own.

Can I record my own voice message?

No.

Can I adjust the volume of Quick Replies?

Not at this time.

Do you need a subscription to the Ring Protect Plan in order to use Quick Replies?

No. Quick Replies is available to all neighbors, regardless of their subscription status. All neighbors can view Quick Replies interactions in real time in Live View. A neighbor that adds a Ring Protect Plan subscription will only see Quick Replies interactions in Event History after the subscription was added, not interactions that occurred prior to the subscription period.

Alexa Greetings is also available for automatic responses if you have an Echo device and a Ring Protect Plan subscription. Quick Replies and Alexa Greetings cannot be used together.
