Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 being installed on a modern front door with a blue screwdriver

Using a Wedge Kit to Properly Position your Video Doorbell Wired

Verify the name of your doorbell in the Ring app.

If you're installing a Ring Doorbell on a house with aluminum siding or in a house where the door is atop a set of stairs you can use a Wedge Kit to properly position the Ring Video Doorbell to catch visitor motion but minimize "false positive" motion alerts.

Both of these situations require the use of a Wedge Kit to properly angle your Ring Video Doorbell to catch the motions you want while avoiding the motions you don't.

There is also a Corner Kit for your Ring Video Doorbell Wired which allows you to adjust your viewing angle by 15, 30 or 45 degrees.

Looking downward

Your ring Video Doorbell "sees" the world in two ways. First through a camera that has a very wide view of the world as illustrated below:

Second, through a network of "PIR" or passive infrared sensors that the Ring Doorbell uses for motion detection. In the illustration below you can see that the motion sensors have a much more focused field-of-view than the camera and that this view is pointed downward to catch motion (as much as possible) within 5 to 15 feet of the Ring Doorbell and exclude motion sources outside that range.

Siding

If your house has siding, you'll need to take the angle of the siding into account when mounting your Ring Video Doorbell. As illustrated below, mounting the Ring Video Doorbell on siding will point the Ring Doorbell up, making it much more likely to catch passing traffic than the heat of visitors.

If you mount your Ring Video Doorbell on siding, a Wedge Kit will properly angle your Ring Doorbell.

Stairs

If your door is above ground level with stairs leading up to it, this can cause your Ring Doorbell to miss visitors walking up your stairs and cause you to get motion alerts from passing traffic.

You can use a Wedge Kit to lower the angle of your Ring Doorbell.

Please note that Wedge Kits are paintable to match your house color.
