Troubleshooting your Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd generation)

Having issues with your Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Generation)? Follow these steps to help resolve them.

Which Modes Can I Choose for the Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Generation)?

The Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Generation) allows you to choose between 3 modes:

  • Keep Mode Button Lit. LED lights will stay on at all times (when plugged into a working power source).
  • Motion Turns on Lights. LEDs light up when sensing motion.
  • Button Press Turns on Lights. LEDs light up only when you press a button on your Keypad (preserves battery power).

To choose Keypad modes, open your Ring app and navigate to LED Patterns in the LED Settings tile.

Why is my Keypad (2nd Generation) in Motion Detection Mode?

If Keep Mode LED On is chosen but the Keypad (2nd generation) is unplugged, the Keypad will perform as if Motion Detection has been chosen to preserve battery power.

What if My Keypad Won’t Connect?

  1. Unplug the Keypad from your power outlet and then plug it in again. If this doesn't work, move the keypad closer to the Base Station and plug it in. You may have to use a Ring Alarm Range Extender.
  2. If nothing happens, tap the pinhole reset button on the back of your Keypad using the pinhole tool included or a paper clip.
  3. Repeat the process of adding your Keypad (2nd Generation) if it won't connect. When it is attempting to pair (listening), try pressing and holding the 1 key on the Keypad.

What If I Need to Remove My Keypad?

  1. Unplug the Keypad.
  2. In the Ring app, tap Menu, then tap Devices, then tap Alarm or Alarm Pro Base Station, then tap the Keypad you wish to remove.
  3. Tap Device Settings (the gear icon), then tap Remove. On the next screen tap Remove again.
  4. Tap the pinhole reset button using the pinhole tool included or a paper clip.
  5. The app will let you know the device was removed. You can leave the Keypad unplugged until ready to set up again.

What If I am Still Having Trouble Connecting My Keypad or it Adds a Binary Sensor?

  1. Unplug the Keypad.
  2. In the Ring app, tap Menu, then tap Devices, then tap Alarm or Alarm Pro Base Station, then tap Base Station.
  3. Tap Device Settings (the gear icon), then tap Advanced Options, then tap Z-Wave, then tap Remove Z-Wave Device. Note: Do not tap “Reset Z-Wave Network”. This will remove your entire Ring Alarm network and you’ll need to reset every device.
  4. Tap Remove and the app will say “Removing device, listening for device to remove.”
  5. Tap the pinhole reset button using the pinhole tool included or a paper clip. The device should be removed successfully and you may now set up it up in the Ring app again.

How Do I Factory Reset My Keypad (2nd Generation)?

If you've tried all of the above steps and you're still having difficulty with your Keypad, you can try to factory reset this device.

Note: This will remove device settings such as chirps and volume adjustments and reset the device back to the original default settings.

To factory reset your Keypad, press and hold the pinhole reset button in the back of the Keypad for 10 seconds, until it flashes red.

If you have tried these steps and it still doesn’t work, we recommend reaching out to our support teams for assistance.
