Ring Protect is a subscription plan that provides extra features and benefits for your Ring devices.
You can add a Ring Protect Basic plan which covers one Ring Video Doorbell or Ring Camera, or Ring Protect Plus, which provides the following benefits for all Ring devices (including Ring Alarm) at your location:
- Ring Video Doorbells and Cameras: Captures videos and photos and stores them in the cloud for up to 60 days (in the US), so you can review, share, and save them at your leisure.
- All Ring Devices: Enjoy extended warranties for all devices, plus get 10% off future purchases at Ring.com
If you’ve purchased a plan on Amazon.com, you’ll need to complete the following steps in order to attach it to your device or location and use it:
- Link your Amazon and Ring accounts. Click here for directions.
- Sign into your Ring account.
Attaching your Ring Protect plan to a device
On a desktop computer:
- Log in to your Ring account.
- Select Protect Plan.
- Select an unattached plan on the left.
- Select Attach Plan and choose the Location or Device you'd like to attach your subscription. Devices will only appear if you are the device owner.
On a mobile device:
- Open your Ring App.
- Select Attach Plan on your dashboard.
- On the pop-up screen, confirm that your plan details are correct. Devices will only appear if you are the device owner.
- Select Attach Plan.
Your device or location is now covered with a Ring Protect Plan. Your Ring Protect subscription will be activated and you will be charged.
Which types of Ring Protect plans are available through Amazon.com? Will they have the same cost and benefits as Ring.com plans?
Ring Protect Basic and Plus can be purchased through Amazon.com, and have the same cost and benefits as plans purchased on Ring.com. At this time, Ring Protect Pro is only available for purchase on ring.com.

How do I activate my subscription?
In order to activate your Ring Protect Plan purchased through Amazon.com, you will need to link your Ring account to your Amazon.com account. You can go to Ring.com or the Ring app to (1) Link your Amazon and Ring accounts and (2) Attach your Ring Protect Plan to your device or location.
Why do I need to link my account to Amazon?
You will need to link your accounts for the subscription you purchased on Amazon and your Ring device(s) or location(s) to appear under the same account, which is necessary to attach the subscription in your Ring app or on Ring.com.
When should I attach my subscription?
You may attach your subscription to a device or location at any time. However, if your Ring device is on a Ring Protect trial, attach your purchased subscription to your Ring device or location before your trial ends to avoid losing access to your past videos and other benefits.
Can I purchase a Ring Protect Plan through Amazon.com in any country?
In order to purchase a Ring Protect Plan through Amazon.com, you must be in the United States.
If I already subscribed to a Ring Protect Plan through ring.com, can I purchase another one from Amazon.com?
Yes, Ring Protect plans give coverage on a per device or location basis. You can have multiple Ring Protect plans, one for each location with a Ring Alarm and/or Ring cameras.
Does a Ring Protect Plan purchased through Amazon.com replace my existing Ring subscriptions?
Not automatically. You can upgrade an existing Ring Basic Plan purchased through ring.com or amazon.com by attaching the device under the Basic Plan to a Plus Plan purchased through Amazon.com. In this case, the Basic Plan is cancelled and you’ll get a prorated refund. You will then be charged for the Plus Plan purchased through Amazon.com.
How do I manage my Ring Protect Plan purchased through Amazon.com if I want to upgrade, change, or cancel my subscription?
You can view subscription details, manage payment options, and cancel your subscription in Your Memberships & Subscriptions within your Amazon.com account.
To upgrade your subscription to Protect Pro, first cancel your existing Ring Protect plan on amazon.com. Then, go to ring.com to purchase a Protect Pro subscription. Learn more.
Can I use the Ring Protect 10% discount on Amazon.com?
Yes. The Ring Protect 10% discount can be applied to select Ring devices purchased on Amazon.com or Ring.com. To use your discount on Amazon.com, make sure your Ring and Amazon accounts are linked. The discount will be added automatically to your Amazon cart at checkout (no discount code required). Terms and conditions apply.
If I need help or have questions concerning my Ring Protect Plan purchased through Amazon.com, who do I reach out to?
If you need help with any aspect of your Ring Protect Plan purchased through Amazon.com, please reach out to Amazon Customer Support. For certain questions regarding Ring, Amazon Customer Support may transfer you to Ring support specialists.
When will I be charged for my subscription if I buy it on Amazon.com?
You will be charged for your subscription when you have attached your subscription to a device or location unless you are in your 30-day trial (if you have one), in which case you’ll be charged at the end of it.
I attached my subscription but didn't get an email, how do I know it worked?
You can check the status of your subscription by signing into your Amazon account, navigating to Your Memberships & Subscriptions and view active subscriptions.
You will receive a confirmation email that your subscription was attached once you are successfully charged for your subscription. If you attached your subscription during your 30-day trial, you will not be charged until the end of your trial, and you will receive the confirmation email at that time.
Is there a trial period for Ring Protect Plus?
Yes. Every new device comes standard with a 30-day trial of Ring Protect Plus. To continue enjoying the benefits of your trial, purchase a plan on Amazon.com or by logging in to Ring.com. If you are already subscribed to Ring Protect Plus on a location with the new device, it automatically has coverage as part of the Plus plan.
Your Ring Protect Plus trial begins on the first day your new product is set up in the Ring app. If you purchase an additional product, a new trial would begin for the new device.
- On January 1 2021, if you set up a new Ring Video Doorbell 3, you would begin a Ring Protect Plus 30-day trial ending on January 31, 2021.
- On January 15 2021, if you set up a new Floodlight Cam at the same location, your new Ring Protect Plus 30-day trial end date would be February 15, 2021.
When does my trial start?
A 30-day trial is included with every new device set-up unless you are setting up a device in a location that is already covered by a Ring Protect Plus Plan.
What happens if I purchase a Ring Protect Plan during my 30-day trial and then cancel it during that same 30-day trial?
If you cancel a Ring Protect Plan you have purchased during a trial, you will continue to enjoy the benefits of the Ring Protect trial (including video storage and retention) until your 30-day trial is over.
Can I buy a Ring Protect Plan as a gift?
Ring Protect plans cannot be gifted to another person. Only the account owner can purchase a subscription for themselves.
How many subscriptions do I need?
There are two types of Ring Protect plans available on Amazon. Ring Protect Plus will cover all devices at one location. Ring Protect Basic can be purchased for each camera. If you want video recording and protection for multiple cameras, we recommend that you choose Ring Protect Plus to cover everything. View your eligible devices by logging in to Ring.com.
I'm a shared user, why can't I buy the subscription?
No. Only account owners may purchase and attach Ring Protect plans.
Can I buy an upgrade for my Ring subscription on Amazon.com?
If you currently have a Basic subscription and would like to upgrade your subscription to Plus, you can buy the Plus subscription on Amazon.com or Ring.com.
If you currently have a Plus subscription and would like to upgrade to Pro, please contact Ring support.
Can I use my subscription that I purchased with the device on Amazon.com for another Ring device?
Yes. The subscription you purchase with your bundle is not tied to a specific device. You can activate your subscription on any device or location within the Ring app or on Ring.com.
Do I need to buy a bundle to get a subscription?
No. You may purchase a subscription on Ring.com or Amazon.com and apply it to any eligible Ring device or location using the Ring app or on Ring.com.
What devices do I need a subscription for?
A subscription allows you to review, share and save videos and photos captured by your Ring doorbell or camera or manually opt-in to 24/7 professional monitoring for your Ring Alarm. To view your eligible devices, log in to your account on Ring.com or in the Ring app.
Where can I change my payment method for purchases of Ring Protect on amazon.com?
You can change or update your payment method by going to Your Memberships & Subscriptions.
How do I switch to monthly/annual?
To switch the billing cycle on your subscription, you will need to cancel your current subscription and purchase a new one with the desired billing schedule.
How do I downgrade my subscription?
To downgrade your Ring Protect Plus subscription to a Ring Protect Basic subscription you will need to cancel your Plus subscription and then purchase a Basic subscription for the single device that you wish to subscribe.
How do I get to my subscription from the Ring app?
If you are using a phone that operates on Apple’s iOS operating system, you will see a banner in the Ring app prompting you to attach all Ring Protect plans you purchased through Amazon.com to a device or location. If you are using a phone that operates on Google’s Android operating system, click on the Plan menu in the Ring app to see your plans with their current subscription status.
If I cancel my Ring Protect Plan, will I get a refund?
You will be refunded a prorated amount, based on how much time you have left in your Ring Protect Plan at the time of cancellation.
- Annual Plans: If you cancel your annual Ring Protect Plan at any time during your subscription period, your annual plan will be prorated over 12 months. Accordingly, you will be responsible for the monthly subscription fee (i.e., fee for the monthly subscription plan) for each month of your annual subscription period prior to your cancellation. If you cancel after a new month of your annual plan has already started, you will be charged for the entire month's subscription fee. You will be eligible for a refund or credit of the remainder of your annual subscription fee (minus any credits applied or partial refunds issued).
- Monthly Plan: If you cancel your monthly Ring Protect Plan at any time during your subscription period, your monthly plan will be prorated over for the remaining days.
How do I transfer my subscription to a new device or location?
You can transfer your subscription to a new device or location through Your Memberships & Subscriptions.
How do I change the primary owner on my subscription?
You can transfer the subscription to a different device or location, but you cannot change the owner.
If I delete my device or location, will my subscription be cancelled automatically?
No, if you delete your device or location, your subscription will not be cancelled. To cancel your Ring subscription, go to Your Memberships & Subscriptions.
If I replace my Ring device, what happens to my videos?
If your Ring device is attached to a Ring Protect Plan purchased through Amazon.com, your new device will be placed in a 30-day trial so that your videos remain accessible. You will need to attach a subscription purchased through Amazon.com to this new device to retain videos past the 30-day trial period. Please keep in mind to keep the old Ring device on the account so that your videos from your previous device transfer to your new device.
What happens to my Ring Protect Plan if I unlink my Amazon and Ring account?
If you are subscribed to a Ring Protect Plan through Amazon and you unlink your Amazon and Ring accounts, your subscription will be paused with the remainder of the unused term. You will have up to 12 months from the date of unlinking to activate the subscription by relinking your Amazon and Ring accounts and re-attaching the subscription to an eligible device/location. If you do not re-attach the subscription within 12 months, we will cancel your paused subscription and iou will be refunded a prorated amount for the unused term.
What happens to my Ring Protect Plan if I delete my Amazon account?
If you are subscribed to a Ring Protect Plan through Amazon and you delete your Amazon account, you will automatically cancel Ring Protect Plan. If you would like to repurchase a Ring Protect Plan you must first go to ring.com and unlink your Ring account from the Amazon account that was deleted. If you do not unlink your accounts, you will get redirected to Amazon.com to purchase a subscription and will be unable to proceed as your Amazon account will no longer exist.
How long do my videos stay in my Ring account?
Your Ring videos are stored in the cloud for up to 60 days, unless your address is in one of countries listed below, in which case the storage period is for up to 30 days (effective January 1, 2019).
