Adjust the Video Recording Length on Your Battery Powered Devices

Your Ring app gives you the power to control how long your Ring devices record events, even if you don't respond to notifications. By lowering or raising your video recording length you can choose a longer time to see more of each event or less recording time in order to preserve battery life. 

This article will answer commonly asked questions concerning the video recording length control.

What Ring devices have the Video Recording Length control?

The Video Recording Length control can be found on the following Ring battery-powered devices:

  • Ring Video Doorbell 
  • Ring Video Doorbell 2
  • Ring Video Doorbell 3
  • Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus
  • Stick Up Cam Battery
  • Peephole Cam (formerly called Door View Cam)

How do I adjust the video recording lengths?

To adjust the video recording controls, follow these instructions:

In the Ring App:

  • Tap on the three lines on the top left of the Dashboard screen.
  • Tap on Devices.
  • Tap on the device you wish to adjust.
  • Tap Device Settings.
  • Tap Video Recording Length.
  • Tap Max Recording Length.
  • When the list appears you can select: 
    • 15 seconds 
    • 20 seconds
    • 25 seconds
    • 30 seconds
    • 60 seconds
    • 90 seconds
    • 120 seconds.

You may get a notice warning that your choice will affect your battery life. You can always make a selection and change it to a shorter time if you feel your battery is draining too fast.

Motion Verification will affect your recording time. If you want to change your Motion Verification setting go to Motion Settings, then to Motion Verification to toggle the feature on or off. 

Note: If you have a battery-powered Ring device and you switched to Advanced Motion Detection, you will no longer see the option for Motion Verification in your Ring app. 

What are the minimum and maximum lengths I can the recording for? 
The video recording length can be set from 15 seconds up to 120 seconds. 

Can I set different devices to different recording lengths?
Yes. Each device has its own individual video recording length control and they can be set to different recording lengths.
