Setting Up and Installing your Ring Smart Lighting Solar Floodlight

Setting up your Smart Lighting Solar Floodlight in the Ring app is simple. Simply scroll down for a step-by-step guide.

Before you begin:

  • If there is an update available for your Ring app, please update it before you begin. Remind any shared users to update their app too. Updating the app ensures that everyone on your account will be able to see this new device.
  • Be sure to install and
    before installing and setting up your Smart Solar Lights. You will need to have a Ring Bridge installed and set up in order to connect your Smart Solar Lights to the Ring App and the rest of your Ring devices.
  • To ensure optimal performance we recommend pre-charging the battery in your Smart Lighting Solar Floodlight before use. To remove the battery for charging: 
    • Twist your Floodlight counterclockwise and separate it from the back cover.  
    • Press down on the metal tab and pull the battery out of the battery compartment.  
    • Remove the two protective stickers from each end of the pack and plug in the included micro USB cord to the battery pack, then into a USB power supply.  
    • There will be two LEDs lit on the battery while it is charging, when only one LED is lit the pack is fully charged.

Note: Charge the pack at least 12 hours before initial use.

Step One - Select Set Up a Device

Open the side menu by tapping the three parallel lines in the upper left-hand corner of the Ring app.

  • Tap “Set Up a Device.”
  • Tap “Smart Lighting.”
  • Select your location.

Step Two - Scan the QR Code on Your Device

  • Twist your Floodlight counter-clockwise to unlock and separate it from the back cover.
  • Use your mobile device to scan the QR code inside of the battery compartment of your Solar Floodlight.
    • This code can also be found on the product packaging of your Solar Floodlight.

If your mobile device is not scanning the QR code, you can select “Set Up Without Scanning” and enter the five-digit PIN code underneath your device’s QR code to add your device.

Step Three - Insert Quick Release Battery Pack into Your Solar Floodlight

Remove the Quick Release Battery pack by pressing in on the metal tab and pulling the battery out of the floodlight.

  • Carefully remove and discard the two battery strips on the included battery.
  • Insert the included battery into the floodlight and push until it snaps into place.
  • If you like, you can purchase a second battery to make your floodlight last longer during cloudy periods.
  • Replace the back cover and twist clockwise to lock into place.
  • The light will blink twice when fully powered up. When this happens, press “Continue” in your Ring app and follow the prompts on your mobile device

Step Four - Add Your Solar Floodlight to a Light Group

  • Select the light Group you’d like to add your Floodlight to.
    • If you’d like to create a new group that is not listed, you can select “Custom…” and type a new group name.

Step Five - Name Your Solar Floodlight

  • Give your Floodlight a specific name to distinguish it from the other Ring devices on your account.

Step Six - Remove the Mounting Plate

  • Press the tab on the side and slide the mounting plate off of the back cover.

Step Seven - Install your Floodlight

  • Hold the mounting plate firmly against the surface and drive the three mounting screws.
  • If installing on a masonry surface, use the mounting plate as a template to mark pilot holes, making sure the "up" arrow is pointing upward.
  • Then drill the holes and insert the anchors.
  • Align your Floodlight with the mounting plate and slide it to the left to lock it in.

Step Seven - Install your Solar Panel

  • Select an install location within 13 feet of your Floodlight that can get direct sunlight.
  • Mark the holes using the mounting arm as a template then drive the two mounting screws.
  • If installing on a masonry surface, first drill holes using a 3/16" drill bit. Insert the wall anchors before inserting the screws.
  • Then drill the holes and insert the anchors.
  • Attach the Solar Panel by positioning the slots in the rear of your Solar Panel over the mounting arm and slide it down to secure it.
  • Loosen the screw on the mounting arm and adjust the panel to your desired angle, then re-tighten the screw to secure your setting.  You can also rotate the panel to adjust its positioning.
  • Once your Solar Panel is mounted, insert the power plug into the power input at the bottom of your Floodlight.  Make sure it clicks into place.
