Frequently asked questions

If my battery-powered Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus is hardwired, does it still need a battery?

Yes, your device will get a trickle charge from the wiring, but it still requires a battery. If you don't want to experience downtime while charging the battery, you can purchase a second battery on Ring.com.

My battery is hardwired to my existing doorbell or connected to a solar charger, but according to the Ring app, my charge keeps falling to 90%. Why is this happening?

The trickle charge your Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus gets from being hardwired or solar charged is only used to charge the battery – not run its operations. To maximize the battery's overall lifetime, your doorbell waits for its charge to fall below 90% before using the wired or solar power to recharge it.
