Fixing Ring Alarm connectivity issues

Learn how to improve the connection from your Ring Alarm Base Station to your Alarm sensors.

Things that can weaken your Ring Alarm signals

Just like walls can block your cell phone signal, some things can make your Ring Alarm sensors work less well. Watch out for these:

Electronics that can block Z-Wave signals

Objects that can block Z-Wave signals

Mobile phones and cordless phones
Walls made of brick or concrete
Wireless speakers
Metal walls or siding
Bluetooth devices
Metal-backed insulation
Plasma TVs
Heavy wood beams
Baby monitors
Large mirrors or fish tanks
Other wifi networks and devices
Large appliances

Fixing poor signal strength

  • Check the location of your Base Station. Place your Base Station in an open space, like on a living room table. Make sure it's on the same floor as your Alarm sensors because signals don't travel well between floors.
  • Check for nearby electronics. Things like TVs, computers, and microwaves can cause problems for your Ring Alarm. These devices can interfere with signals, making it harder for your system to work the way it should. It's best to place your Alarm sensors away from these electronics. This way, your Ring Alarm can send and receive signals more clearly.
  • If your Alarm sensors are still having trouble connecting,
. This device helps boost the signal, kind of like a cell phone tower for your alarm system.
