Persistent Visitors Information for Ring Peephole Cam

The Persistent Visitors feature on your Ring Peephole Cam can send you a notification in the Ring app when it detects people lingering near your front door.

This article includes basic information on Persistent Visitors.

Persistent Visitors and People Only Mode

People Only Mode is a special user setting in the Ring app that can notify you of the motion detected by your Ring device’s camera when it is caused by human-shaped objects. While all detected Motion Events will still be video recorded by your Ring device (if you have a Ring Protect Plan), People Only Mode can reduce the number of notifications you receive to only those caused by humans.

The Persistent Visitors setting, if enabled, will give you a different notification if people spend an extended amount of time in your camera’s field-of-view.

You have two controls for the kinds of notifications you get. Note that these controls are not mutually exclusive, you can turn on one or the other or both.

  • Always: You’ll get alerts whenever humans are detected.
  • If They Stay: You’ll get special notifications when humans stay in view for an extended period of time. You can set the length of time a person has to stay in view before the device sends the special notification.

Do you have to use the Persistent Visitors feature?
No. The Persistent Visitors feature is an optional additional feature you’ll see underneath the People Only Mode toggle. You can turn it on or off as you wish, however the Persistent Visitors feature will only work while People Only Mode is on.

Does everyone have access to the Persistent Visitors feature?
No. Persistent Visitors is only accessible to customers with a Ring Peephole Cam who have enabled the People Only Mode feature.

A Ring Protect Plan is an optional subscription plan that covers various benefits, such as professional monitoring and video recording services for Ring devices and is sold separately. With a Ring Protect Plan, you'll be able to save and share your Ring videos and will have access to the People Only Mode and Persistent Visitors features.
