Persistent Visitors Information

The Persistent Visitors feature on your Ring App offers you a notification that helps identify people who are loitering about your property. The Persistent Visitors feature can help you become more vigilant about keeping your home safe and secure.

This article will give you all the basic information on Persistent Visitors.

Persistent Visitors and People-Only Mode

People Only Mode is a special setting in your notifications that will set your Ring app to alert you to motions detected by your Ring device caused by people. While all valid Motion Events will still be recorded by your Ring device (if you have a Ring Protect Plan), People Only Mode can reduce the number of notifications you receive to only those caused by human beings.

The Persistent Visitors setting will give you a different notification for people who spend an extended amount of time in your camera’s field-of-view.

You have two controls that can be toggled to determine what kinds of alerts you get. Note that these controls are not mutually exclusive, you can turn on one or the other or both.

  • Always. You’ll get alerts whenever humans are detected
  • If They Stay. You’ll get special alerts when humans stay in view.

There is also a timer setting that sets the length of time a person has to stay in view before the device sends the special alert.

Do you have to use the persistent visitors feature?
No. The persistent visitors feature is a separate control underneath the People Only Mode toggle. You can turn it on or off as you wish, however the persistent visitors feature will only work while the People Only Mode is on.

Does everyone have access to the persistent visitors feature?
No. Persistent visitors is only accessible to those neighbors with a Ring Protect Plus or Ring Protect Basic Plan who also have the People Only Mode feature.

What is a Ring Protect Plan?
Ring Protect Plan is an optional plan that covers monitoring and video recording services for Ring devices. With Ring Protect Plus or Basic you'll be able to save your Ring videos for a reasonable price as well as having access to the People Only and persistent visitors features.
