Ring Alarm Professional Monitoring Emergency Response

Learn more about the different types of Alarm events and how the Ring Monitoring Center responds to them when your alarm sounds and you have added on Alarm Professional Monitoring1.

When a call from the Monitoring Center comes in, you or one of your emergency contacts can answer it to request emergency dispatch. To discuss alarm details or cancel an alarm, the person on the phone must provide a verbal password.

Ring Alarm Guard Response

Guard Response is a Professional Protection service that verifies emergencies and requests help if needed—even when you’re away—by sending a trusted guard to your location when your system is triggered. In some areas, police and fire departments require that certain security system signals are verified before emergency responders can be dispatched. Learn more about Ring Alarm Guard Response.


Ring Monitoring Center requirements

To get 24/7 Professional Monitoring, you need:

  • Ring Alarm system with active sensors.
  • Ring Home Standard or Premium Plan subscription (sold separately).
    to find the plan that best fits your needs.
  • Professional Monitoring service.


Emergency Response plans

Our Monitoring Center follows specific plans to protect your home and family while minimizing false alarms. These response plans determine the following:

  • When to contact your emergency contacts.
  • When to request dispatch of emergency responders to your home.

Saving the Ring Monitoring Center Number

Make sure you and your emergency contacts save the Ring Monitoring Center phone number. If you receive a Monitoring Center call prior to saving this contact, you can verify the phone number: 833-209-2159.

Using a verbal password Your verbal password will be required for:

  • Discussing alarm status with Monitoring Center agents.
  • Canceling an alarm when you receive a call from the Monitoring Center.
  • All emergency contact interactions with the Monitoring Center.

No verbal password needed:

  • Requesting emergency dispatch when a Monitoring Center agent calls you.


Emergency Response before and after your practice period

When you sign up for Professional Monitoring, you will initiate a seven-day practice period to learn how to use the service with your device. During this time:

  • You will receive automated voice messages for triggered alarms.
  • Dispatch of emergency services will not be requested.
  • You can get help from live Monitoring Center agents if needed.

After your practice period:

  • The Monitoring Center will follow the designated response plan for your emergency type.
  • Full emergency response service begins.


Burglar Alarm response plan

The Burglar Alarm is triggered by a Contact Sensor, Motion Detector, or Glass Break Sensor² when Ring Alarm is armed in Home or Away Mode.

SMS text alerts

Short Message Service (SMS) for Ring Alarm is a feature that will send a text message to you and your emergency contacts in response to a Burglar Alarm.

To opt-in to receive SMS text alerts:

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap the menu (☰).

  3. Tap
    Settings
    .
  4. Tap
    Monitoring
    .
  5. Tap
    Emergency Contacts
    .
  6. Select your name.
  7. Verify there are no error messages and that SMS text messages are toggled on.
  8. If no error message is present, uncheck
    Receive Text Notifications
    and re-check it.

Each of your emergency contacts will need to opt in on their own if they would like to receive SMS text alerts for Burglar Alarms.

How the Monitoring Center responds to Burglar Alarms

When your Burglar Alarm triggers, we will begin calling your emergency contacts. Police dispatch will be requested when:

  • No contacts answer our calls.
  • Contacts answer but don't know the verbal password.
  • Any contact answers and requests help.

Canceling a Burglar Alarm

You can cancel an alarm in two ways: Disarm your system quickly using the Keypad or Ring app

  • The alarm stops automatically.
  • You'll get a confirmation call if this feature is turned on in your Ring app.

Verify identity by phone

  1. Answer the Monitoring Center's call.
  2. Provide your verbal password.
  3. Tell the agent to cancel the alarm.


Smoke Alarm response plan

The Smoke Alarm response is triggered by a compatible smoke detector, such as the First Alert Smoke/CO Detector² or the Ring Alarm Smoke & CO Listener¹, ² whether the alarm is in Home, Away, or Disarmed mode. The Smoke Alarm response can also be triggered by the Kidde Smart Smoke and CO Alarm with or without a Ring Alarm system.

How the Monitoring Center responds to Smoke Alarms

When your Smoke Alarm triggers, we will do the following:

  1. Call your primary emergency contact.
  2. Dispatch the fired department if there is no answer.
  3. Call remaining emergency contacts to inform them of the dispatch.

Canceling a Smoke Alarm

You can cancel a smoke alarm in three ways:

Answer the Monitoring Center call

  1. Confirm you are at the location.
  2. Ask to cancel the Smoke Alarm.

Use the Ring Alarm Keypad

  1. Enter your user code.
  2. Press the Disarm button.

Use the Ring App

  1. Tap
    Disarm
    on the alarm pop-up.
  2. Confirm you're at the location by tapping
    Request Cancel
    .

Important

  • If you cancel using the Keypad or Ring app, the Monitoring Center will still call your emergency contacts to confirm it's a false alarm.
  • Canceling through the Keypad or App doesn't guarantee the emergency response won't arrive at your location.

Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarm response plan

The CO Alarm is triggered by a compatible smoke alarm, such as the First Alert Smoke/CO Detector², or the Ring Alarm Smoke & CO Listener¹, ² whether the alarm is in Home, Away, or Disarmed mode. The CO Alarm can also be triggered by the Kidde Smart Smoke and CO Alarm with or without a Ring Alarm system.

IMPORTANT: CO Alarms cannot be canceled.

How the Monitoring Center responds to CO Alarms

When your CO Alarm triggers, we will do the following:

  1. Immediately request fire department response.
  2. Call your emergency contacts to inform them of the dispatch.

Unlike Smoke Alarms, CO Alarms prompt immediate request for emergency response, due to the severe health risks of CO exposure.


Panic Alarm response plan

The Panic Alarm4 is triggered by pressing and holding X and ✓ on the Keypad (1st Generation), pressing and holding the police button on the Keypad (2nd Generation), or pressing and holding the Panic Button4, whether the alarm is in Home, Away, or Disarmed mode.

How the Monitoring Center responds to Panic Alarms

When you trigger a Panic Alarm, we immediately call your primary emergency contact. Police dispatch occurs in any of these situations:

  • Emergency contact confirms the emergency.
  • Emergency contact provides an incorrect verbal password.
  • Emergency contact doesn't answer the call.

The Monitoring Center only attempts to reach your primary emergency contact before dispatching police.

Canceling a Panic Alarm

To cancel a Panic Alarm:

  1. The Monitoring Center calls your primary emergency contact.
  2. The contact must answer the call.
  3. The contact must provide the correct verbal password.

Duress Alarm response plan

A Duress Alarm is triggered by entering the Duress Code on the Keypad whether the alarm is in Home, Away, or Disarmed mode. Learn more about the Duress Code.

How the Monitoring Center responds to Duress Alarms

When you enter your Duress Code, the following will occur:

  1. Your Ring Alarm will be disarmed.
  2. The Monitoring Center will be notified.
  3. Police dispatch will be requested immediately.
  4. Your emergency contacts will not be called.

Important: Emergency dispatch cannot be canceled.


SOS Alarm response plan

The SOS Alarm5 is triggered by using the SOS button in your Ring app whether the alarm is in Home, Away, or Disarmed mode. Learn more about SOS.

How the Monitoring Center responds to SOS Alarms

Ring Alarm users: When you tap the SOS icon, a siren will sound from your Ring Alarm. We will call your primary emergency contact. If no one answers, they will send the emergency service you selected (police, fire, or medical).

Camera and doorbell users: For fire or medical emergencies, the Monitoring Center will call all your emergency contacts. If no one answers, we will request emergency services. For police emergencies, the Monitoring Center will call all your emergency contacts. If no one answers, we will not send police dispatch.

Canceling an SOS Alarm

Alarm users: Only the first emergency contact can cancel the emergency dispatch request. If they don't answer, we'll contact the remaining emergency contacts.

Doorbell and camera users: The Monitoring Center will call all your emergency contacts. Any emergency contact can cancel the emergency dispatch request.

If you have a verbal password

  • Fire and medical: Verbal password is not required to cancel.
  • Police: Verbal password is required to cancel.

Important: You cannot cancel an SOS alarm through the app in any situation.


Flood & Freeze Alarm response plan

The Flood & Freeze Alarm can be triggered when the Ring Alarm Flood & Freeze sensor detects water or freezing temperatures whether the alarm is in Home, Away, or Disarmed mode.

How the Monitoring Center responds to Flood & Freeze Alarms

This sensor does not offer dispatch services. When the sensor detects water or freezing temperatures, you can choose from various alerts and automated calls.

Canceling Flood & Freeze alerts

Flood & Freeze Alarms do not offer a dispatch service. All notifications can be snoozed or dismissed within the app.
