How to Reconnect Your Video Doorbell or Security Camera to Wifi or Change Your Wifi Network

To reconnect your Ring video doorbell or security camera to your wifi network in the Ring app:

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Tap the top menu (≡).
  3. Tap Devices and select the doorbell or security camera you need to reconnect to wifi.
  4. Tap Device Health
  5. Tap on Reconnect to Wifi or Change Wifi Network

Do not use for Ring Alarm.
The instructions above are only for Ring doorbells and cameras.

Remember that wifi passwords are case sensitive. If you don't know your wifi password, it might be printed on the bottom or side of your router. 

If you have a continuous problem with your device disconnecting from wifi or a weak signal, try moving your router.

How to Reconnect a Security Camera Mounted in a High Place

Reconnect to wifi in the Ring app:

  • Tap menu (≡) (top left)
  • Tap Devices
    • Select your Spotlight Cam 
  • Tap Device Health
  • Tap Change Network
  • Tap Reconnect 
    • Then choose Movement or Setup Button
      • Tap Movement to reconnect to wifi if your camera is too high to access the setup button
      • Stand close to your device, within the camera’s field of view.
      • The camera sensor will detect motion and your device will enter setup mode.
  • Tap Continue and follow the prompts in the app to reconnect
  • Once your device is reconnected to wifi (which can take up to 30 minutes), check your wifi signal strength in Device Health under Network

How to Reconnect to a Ring Chime Pro Network

The Ring Chime Pro acts as a wifi extender as well as an audible doorbell chime. When you are reconnecting a device that has disconnected from wifi, you can connect to the Chime Pro Network instead of selecting your home wifi network, which can boost performance if there is significant distance between your router and Ring device. 

How to Check your Battery Percentage in the Ring App

If your doorbell or security camera is battery-operated, your battery percentage in the Ring app.

Open the Ring app

    • Tap the top left Menu (≡)
  • Tap Devices 
    • Select your doorbell or security camera 
  • Tap Device Health 
    • Check Power Status to check the battery charge.

Hardwired Doorbells or Security Cameras with No Battery

If you have a hardwired device without a battery, check to make sure the device is receiving adequate power in the Device Health section of the Ring app.

You can also try rebooting your router by temporarily unplugging it for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in again.    

Other Possible Causes of Not Connecting or Getting Disconnected from Wifi 

  • Your wifi network name changed or your wifi network password has changed.
  • You upgraded from a 2.4 GHz network to a 5 GHz network and your Ring device is not compatible with 5 GHz. Try connecting to a 2.4 GHz network instead.
  • Your wifi network password has special characters or symbols in it, such as a pound sign (#) or exclamation mark (!). If your router is supplied by your Internet Service Provider, work with them to change the password and eliminate the special character.
  • Check for loose wires. 
  • Check your breaker box to see if you have blown a fuse.
  • If you have a Floodlight Cam, and it's connected to a light switch or a timer, make sure the switch is set to “on” and that the timer is working.

All Ring doorbells and security cameras are compatible with 2.4 GHz networks

All Ring doorbells and security cameras can connect to 2.4 GHz networks. If you're unsure whether your Ring product can connect to 5 GHz, connect to a 2.4 GHz network.
