Did you know your Ring devices can be connected within the Ring app, creating one, simple complete Ring of Security for your home?
This feature, Linked Devices, connects your Ring devices together and provides instructions for a group of devices to begin functioning whenever any of them are activated.
This article will answer common questions about Linked Devices.
What is the Linked Devices feature?
Linked Devices allows you to connect your Ring devices together and provides instructions for a group of devices to begin functioning whenever any of them are activated. Say, for example, that a motion triggers your Ring Video Doorbell. It notifies you and begins recording* as usual. That's when Linked Devices takes over. Because you've linked your Floodlight Cam and Spotlight Cam to your Video Doorbell, you can ensure that they immediately turn on their lights and begin recording as well. In this way, your Ring devices are able to react and protect you as a team.
Can you link any Ring device to any other Ring device?
Yes! Device linking works with all Ring devices including Video Doorbells and Security Cams. The function is found on the Ring app with the latest Android or iOS system.
How do auto-recorded events show up in my history?
Auto-recorded events will populate as a linked event.
When a camera on a device is triggered by a linked device, how long will the camera record for?
Currently, the length of recording time is set to the camera default - 30 seconds for battery-powered cameras and one minute for wired cameras.
Is Ring Protect required to link devices?
No, but Ring Protect is required to use the recording functions on all Ring devices. As a result, you will need to subscribe to Ring Protect Basic for each device or Ring Protect Plus or Pro for each location. You can still activate lights without subscribing to Ring Protect.
If I connect a device with lights to a device without lights, will the lights turn on during the day if the non-light device triggers it?
By default, yes, but there is a control that allows you to determine when the lights should activate.
Will linking devices drain my battery faster?
The function in itself will not cause the battery in your battery-operated devices to drain faster. If, however, the feature causes your devices to experience more activations than it had been experiencing before or if you have Live View enabled, your battery may drain faster.
