Shared Users and Alexa

You can add friends and family as Shared Users in the Ring app to give them access to your Ring devices and their features. Shared Users can also use Alexa-enabled devices to interact with your Ring devices.

What Shared Users can do

  • Activate Live View
  • Initiate Two-Way Talk
  • View Event History
  • View recorded videos in the Ring app
  • Turn alerts on/off for their smartphone, tablet, or PC

What Shared Users can't do

  • Use Alexa to answer and receive alerts when someone presses the doorbell or triggers the motion sensors
  • Receive doorbell press or motion announcements via Alexa
  • View the most recently recorded videos in the Alexa app
  • Delete videos stored in recent activity
  • Add other Shared Users
  • Delete devices
  • Change motion settings
  • Change the Ring device name

Add a Shared User

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Go to the menu and tap
    Devices
    .
  3. Tap a device you want a Shared User to have access to.
  4. Tap
    Shared Access
    and follow the on-screen instructions.

Shared Users will receive an email invitation to become a user for selected devices. They must have a Ring account to be added as a Shared User. If they don't have a Ring account, they will be prompted to create one.
