Ring Protect Pro protecting a location's security system with 24/7 Professional Monitoring.

How to Use Ring Alarm Modes and Custom Mode Settings at Your Business

You can place Contact Sensors and Motion Detectors on exterior doors and windows for security as well as interior doors where you want to monitor access. Mode Settings allow you to customize when these sensors will be armed and disarmed.

Mode Settings options

  • Away Mode
should be used when no one is at the business location. This will arm all sensors and Motion Detectors inside and around the perimeter of your business.
  • Home Mode
is designed to be used when you or your employees have locked the doors and are working late, and need to feel secure inside the business. Arming your Ring Alarm in Home Mode will arm only the Contact Sensors around the perimeter of your business while ignoring Motion Detectors inside by default.
  • Disarmed Mode
should be used when you arrive, and during times when you expect to have employees and customers coming and going.

How to customize Mode Settings

While default settings work for many, you can customize which doors, windows, and motion detectors are armed and monitored in Home Mode in order to provide the right level of security and access for your specific business. For example, if you want to secure business during the workday, but leave a window open or a door accessible for employees (such as the front door), you can customize Mode settings to ignore specific Contact Sensors when armed in Home Mode.

To customize Home Mode settings:

  1. Open the Ring app, then tap on the
    menu
    (≡)
    .
  2. Tap
    Settings.
  3. Tap
    Modes.
  4. Tap
    Home.
  5. Tap
    Sensors.
  6. Deselect any doors or windows which you would prefer not to arm in Home Mode.
  7. Tap the arrow to save your settings and go back.

Remember that when you customize settings and arm in Home Mode, opening any armed doors or windows will trigger your Alarm.

How to temporarily bypass a sensor without changing Mode Settings

To arm in Home Mode but leave one door unarmed once in a while without changing the Mode Settings:

  1. Physically open the door or window you wish to bypass.
  2. Arm your system in Home Mode.
  3. You will be prompted to bypass the sensor to continue arming.
  4. Tap
    Bypass and Arm
    .

When you’re ready to leave at the end of the business day, don’t forget that your Ring Alarm is still in Home Mode, and should be switched to Away Mode. You should Disarm your Ring Alarm first to avoid triggering the alarm, then arm your Ring Alarm in Away Mode, open the door, leave and lock the door.
