What's the difference between Motion Detection and Motion Alerts (Smart Alerts)?

Motion Alerts (also known as Smart Alerts) controls whether or not you receive notifications when your device detects motion. When turned off, you will not receive notifications. However, your device's motion detector will still be turned on and any motion it detects will be recorded in Event History.

Motion Alerts (Smart Alerts) uses additional video processing, which can delay alerts. With Smart Alerts, you can choose to opt for Person, Other Motion, and Package notifications. Additionally, detection accuracy for these alerts may vary depending on camera placement, angle, and the time of day.

The Motion Detection feature is used to detect movement in your surroundings. Ring devices come equipped with motion-detecting sensors. When they are activated, you’ll receive alerts on your smartphone.
