The Ring Alarm Flood & Freeze Sensor is a device designed to detect water or freezing temperatures inside your house. By using a Ring Alarm Flood & Freeze Sensor in combination with your Ring Alarm Base Station, you can be alerted regardless of where you are.

What is the Ring Flood & Freeze Sensor?

 

Ring’s Flood/Freeze sensor will detect water where it's installed or when the temperature drops below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Should the sensor detect these things, it will send a notification to the Base Station and alert you of a water leak or a heating system issue inside your home that needs immediate attention. 

Why would I need a Flood & Freeze Sensor?

 

Every year water leaks cause extensive damage to homes, costing homeowners thousands of dollars in repairs. When water enters your home from a leaking water heater, broken washing machine, or overflowing sump pump, it can wreak havoc on your home. This sensor will help you to protect your home by detecting water as soon as possible, limiting the damage that can occur.

Extreme cold can be just as damaging, and may also end up creating costly repairs. When the temperature drops, your pipes can freeze and crack. The Flood & Freeze Sensor will alert you when the temperature drops below 40°F, so you can take action before the damage is done.  

How is a Flood & Freeze Sensor placed?

 

Flood & Freeze Sensors are placed on the floor in any place that might experience sudden flooding or a temperature drop. Take care when placing the sensor on the floor to place it in an area where it won't accidentally be kicked or knocked out of position by pets.  

Where are the usual locations for a Flood & Freeze Sensor to be installed?

 

We recommend installing the sensor in any place that might experience a sudden flood or temperature drop. The most common locations for a Flood & Freeze sensor are:

  • Behind a toilet.
  • Under a sink.
  • Under a fridge.
  • Beside or behind a washing machine.
  • Near a water heater.
  • In a basement.
Can the Flood & Freeze Sensor be submerged in water?

 

No. While the device is engineered to be air-tight, it is not meant to be submerged under water during normal operation.  

Can the Flood & Freeze Sensor be painted?

 

No. Painting the device will keep it from functioning properly.  

Can the Flood & Freeze Sensor be placed outside?

 

No. The Flood & Freeze Sensor is designed for indoor use.

How far can the Sensor be from the Base Station?

 

Your Sensor should be placed within 250 feet of the Base Station. If necessary, you can use a range extender.

How is the Flood & Freeze Sensor powered?

 

The Flood & Freeze Sensor is powered using a 3V lithium battery CR123A. This allows it to placed anywhere a potential flood or freezing incident might happen.

Can I use the Flood & Freeze Sensor without a Ring Alarm?

 

No. The Flood & Freeze Sensor requires the Ring Alarm Base Station to send notifications in case of a flooding or freezing event. 

What is the operating temperature range for the Flood & Freeze Sensor?

 

The Flood & Freeze Sensor's battery has an operating temperature range of 32º–104º F (0º–40ºC).

Is the Flood & Freeze Sensor included in Alarm security modes as a monitored sensor to trigger the alarm?

 

Yes. If you have the Ring Protect Plus plan and are professionally monitored, you can now optionally receive an automatic call from the monitoring center notifying you if water or freezing temperatures have been detected.

Can I change the low temperature set point in the app?

 

No, the low temperature set point is at 40ºF and cannot be changed from the app at this time.

Will I receive a notification when water or a low temperature is no longer detected?

 

No, you will only receive alerts when water or low temp has been detected. You will see a history event when water or low temp has cleared.

What is the communication test and why is it important?

 

The communication test occurs after you have added, configured, and placed your sensor in its desired location. The test is important as it ensures that the sensor remains connected to the Base Station in its new location, likely under a sink or in the basement.

The Flood & Freeze Sensor keeps failing the communication test. What do I do to fix it?

 

Try repositioning the Sensor to be closer to the Base Station or. use a range extender to strengthen the communication.

Can I only complete the communication test while setting up the Sensor in my Ring App?

 

No, the communication test can be completed at any time after you've added the sensor to your Base Station. Simply navigate in the Ring App to your sensor's Advanced Options on the device profile page.

Which alerts can I get for my Flood and Freeze Sensor?

 

Email and push notification alerts are available when your Ring Flood and Freeze Sensor detects water where or when the temperature drops below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. In order to get these alerts, you need to adjust the settings so these alerts are on.

 

How do I manage alerts for my Flood and Freeze Sensor?

 

You can manage your email and push notifications for the Flood and Freeze Sensor from your Alarm Alerts Settings. To begin:

  • Open the menu and tap Settings.
  • Next, tap Alarm Alerts.
  • You will see two tabs labeled, E-MAIL and PUSH.
  • Tap on the tab for the alert type you wish to manage.
  • Note: If the main toggle is off, then the Water Detected and Low Temp Detected alerts will be off as well. You will need to turn the main toggle on in order to receive these alerts.
  • Scroll down to the Devices category for Low Temp Detected and Water Detected and ensure they’re toggled on or off according to your preference.
  • When your email and push notification preferences are set, tap Save. 

Note: The Water Detected and Low Temp Detected toggles turn e-mail and push notification alerts on and off for all Flood/Freeze sensors.
