Setting Up Ring Smoke and CO Listener in the Ring App

Get step-by-step instructions on how to setup your Ring Smoke & CO Listener¹ , where best to place it, and how to test it to make sure it’s working properly.

Before you begin:

If there is an update available for your Ring App, please update it before you begin. Remind any shared users to update their app too. Updating the app ensures that everyone on your account will be able to see this new device.  

Select Set Up a Device

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Tap the
    Menu (☰)
    .
  3. Tap
    Devices.
  4. Tap
    Set up a Device
    .
  5. Select 
    Security
    .
  6. Tap 
    Sensors
    .
  7. Select 
    Smoke & CO Listener
    .
  8. Tap 
    Ready
    .
  9. Locate the QR code on the device.

Scan the QR code on your device

  1. Tap the
    Scan QR Code
    button.
  2. Turn over your Smoke & CO Listener.²
  3. Use your mobile device to scan the QR code on the back of Smoke & CO Listener.
    1. If your mobile device is not scanning the QR code, you can enter the 5 digit PIN that is next to the QR code.

The QR code and PIN can also be found in the product packaging of your Smoke & CO Listener.

Pull out the clear tab

When prompted, pull the clear tab from the back of the device. This turns the Listener on. Your Alarm or Alarm Pro Base Station should find the Listener automatically.

As the Listener pairs to your Alarm base station, the Base Station’s LED ring blinks slowly, then quickly. Once pairing is complete, the LED glows blue for five seconds.

If the Listener does not pair successfully, the Base Station LED ring glows red. Try the pairing process again. Start by following the in-app instructions.

Configure your device

  1. Select the room where your device will be placed.
  2. Name your device.

Mount your Smoke & CO Listener³

  1. Install the mounting bracket 3-6 inches* away from your existing smoke/CO alarm.
  2. Be sure to point the arrow toward your alarm.
  3. Slide the Alarm Smoke & CO Listener onto the bracket.

Note: Refer to your detector manufacturer’s recommendations to ensure that the placement of the Listener does not interfere with the functioning of the detector

Test your Smoke & CO Listener

Follow the steps in the Ring app to test your Smoke & CO Listener to make sure it is able to detect the smoke and CO signal from your existing alarm.
