Setting Up Your Ring Smoke & CO Listener in Your Ring App

Setting up your Alarm Smoke & CO Listener* in the Ring app is simple. Simply scroll down for a step-by-step guide.

Before you begin:

If there is an update available for your Ring App, please update it before you begin. Remind any shared users to update their app too. Updating the app ensures that everyone on your account will be able to see this new device.  

Step One - Select Set Up a Device

Open the side menu by tapping the three parallel lines in the upper left-hand corner of the Ring app.

  • Tap “Set Up a Device.”
  • Tap “Security Devices.”
  • Tap “Sensors.”
  • Tap “Smoke & CO Listener.”*
  • Tap “Ready.”

Step Two - Scan the QR Code on Your Device

  • Tap the “Scan QR Code” button.
  • Turn over your Smoke & CO Listener.*
  • Use your mobile device to scan the QR code on the back of Smoke & CO Listener.*
    • If your mobile device is not scanning the QR code, you can enter the 5 digit PIN that is next to the QR code.


The QR code and PIN can also be found in the product packaging of your Smoke & CO Listener.*

Step Three - Pull Out the Clear Tab

When prompted, pull the clear tab from the back of the device.This turns the Listener* on. Your Alarm or Alarm Pro Base Station should find the Listener* automatically.

As the Listener* pairs to your Alarm base station, the Base Station’s LED ring blinks slowly, then quickly. Once pairing is complete, the LED glows blue for five seconds.

Note: If the Listener* does not pair successfully, the Base Station LED ring glows red. Try the pairing process again. Start by following the in-app instructions. When it’s time to pull the battery tab, simply remove and reinsert your battery to complete this process.      

Step Four - Configure Your Device

  • Select the room where your device will be placed.
  • Name your device.

Step Five - Mount Your Smoke & CO Listener*

  • Install the mounting bracket 3-6 inches away from your existing smoke/CO alarm.
  • Be sure to point the arrow toward your alarm.
  • Slide the Alarm Smoke & CO Listener* onto the bracket.

Step Six - Test Your Smoke & CO Listener*

Follow the steps in the Ring app to test your Smoke & CO Listener* to make sure it is able to detect the smoke and CO signal from your existing alarm.
