Test Your Wi-Fi Connections

One of the most important measurements in your Ring security network is the strength of your Wi-Fi signal. Since every element of your system uses Wi-Fi to communicate with every other element of your system, it’s important to get as strong a signal as possible. Your Ring App will run a special connectivity test when you set up a new device, but you can run this test manually at any time yourself to see if a bad Wi-Fi connection is responsible for problems with a device.

Running the connectivity test

To run the connectivity test, follow these instructions:

  • Open your Ring app on your mobile device.
  • Tap the device you wish to check.
  • Tap the Device Health panel.
  • Tap the Connectivity Test tile to run the connectivity test.

The test will run automatically and present you with the following results:

Device to Cloud: This result measures the strength of your device’s connection to the Wi-Fi cloud. Problems here will result in the need to adjust your Ring device in some way.

Possible Results:

Red: Multiple Factors may be preventing your device from establishing a strong connection. This will result in long load times or inability to access Live View.

Yellow: There may be a couple of issues affecting your device connection. This may result in long video load times.

Green: Success: You have a strong signal. If you ever experience issues, you can always come back and we can help you troubleshoot. Enjoy using your Ring device.

Phone to Cloud: This result measures the strength of your phone’s Wi-Fi connection to the internet. Sometimes connections that are strong enough for other mobile functions will be too weak and cause problems with your Ring app.

Possible Results

Red: Looks like your phone is having trouble connecting to your Device. Make sure you have a strong connection to your wireless network or try connecting to Wi-Fi.

Yellow: Looks like your phone's connection is a little weak. Try to connect to Wi-Fi.

Green: Success: You have a strong signal. If you ever experience issues, you can always come back and we can help you troubleshoot. Enjoy using your Ring device.
