Things to check before setup
- Have your wifi password available.
- Keep your mobile device close to the Ring device.
- Turn off any virtual private networks (VPNs).
- Only have one Ring device in setup mode at a time.

Unable to scan the QR code
- The QR code and PIN are in a hidden location to keep it protected. For example, you might need to open the security camera battery compartment, remove the doorbell faceplate, or look underneath wired cameras to find it.
- Make sure you have enough lighting and the QR code is in focus.
- If you are not able to scan, select Other Options. Follow the in-app steps to manually enter the device PIN.
For devices without a QR code or PIN, follow these steps when prompted to scan the code:
- TapOther Options.
- TapCan't see the barcode?.
- TapThe Ring device being set up.
- Continue to follow the in-app prompts.
Unable to find an existing location or new address
- Turn on location settings for your Ring app. Your mobile device provider can help you with turning on location settings.
- Turn off wifi on your mobile device.
- Place the pin on the map for new or unlisted addresses.
- Confirm you are logged into the correct account if you cannot find your existing location.
- Manually enter your address.
Unable to find or connect to the Ring wifi network
- For battery-powered devices:Make sure the battery is fully charged and device powers on.
- For wired or plug-in devices:
- Verify the device is in setup mode. View setup mode light patterns for,,,,,, and.
- Use a different mobile device for setup.
If your device is unable to find or connect to the Ring wifi network, perform a factory reset or power cycle your device before attempting a new setup. Learn more about how to perform a reset or power cycle on your device.
Unable to find your wifi network during setup
- Move the Ring device closer to your wifi router.
- Verify your mobile device can connect to the wifi network.
- Select 2.4 GHz network if 5 GHz is not visible on the setup screen. The 2.4 GHz network has better range than 5 GHz. Note: Some devices only support 2.4 GHz connections.
- Turn on the guest network feature in your router and set up your Ring device to the guest wifi name. For help turning on guest network, contact your internet provider or router manufacturer.
- Use a wifi extender likeor ato improve the wifi signal strength.
Device fails to connect to your home wifi network
If setup fails, check your Ring device's light pattern or audio message, and use the guide below. For network changes, contact your internet provider or router manufacturer.

Note: If the steps that go with the light pattern on your device do not work, try following the steps for the other types of setup failure.
Setup failed: Distance from wifi router or special characters in the wifi name
- If your Ring device is far away from your router, use aor ato improve the wifi signal strength.
- Remove special characters from your wifi network name (e.g. apostrophes, spaces, !, @, #, $, %, &).
Setup failed: Unable to connect to internet
- Turn on the guest network feature in your router, and set the Ring device up to the guest wifi. For help turning on guest network, contact your internet provider or router manufacturer.
- Adjust firewall, ports, and protocols on your wifi router..
- Unplug all Ethernet cables from your router, except the main internet connection between your router and modem or wall outlet.
Setup failed: Incorrect wifi password
Follow these steps to confirm the wifi password is correct:
- Open your mobile device’s wifi settings.
- Select your network's info icon, and tapForget Network.
- Reconnect using your wifi password.
In rare cases, you may need to adjust your router settings. WPA2 is recommended for Ring devices. WPA2 balances strong encryption with broad compatibility. Currently, Ring devices are not compatible with WPA3.
Using multiple routers with Ring
Having more than one wifi router can cause connection problems with Ring devices. Choose one of these fixes:
- Keep one router, and remove the old one.
- Ask your internet provider or router manufacturer how to setup Bridge mode.
