If you’ve verified that your doorbell transformer supplies 16 volts AC at ~30 VA, but your Ring Video Doorbell Pro is not functioning correctly, you may need to bypass your internal doorbell chime.
Symptoms of insufficient power can include:
- Regularly losing connection to your wifi network
- Freezing up or shutting down during the ringtone sound after a button press
- Regularly shutting off (the white light on the front will turn off)
- Freezing up during a live event
- Not ringing your existing internal doorbell chime properly
- Night vision doesn't work
- Ring Video Doorbell Pro works fine for a couple of events and then stops working
Note: This article is for owners of Pro Power Kit v2. If you've been sent a Pro Power Cable for the purpose of bypassing your doorbell, click here for instructions.

Bypassing Your Internal Doorbell Chime
- Turn power off at the breaker.
- Remove the cover from your internal doorbell chime.
- Loosen the “Front” and “Trans” terminal screws.
- Remove the old Pro Power Kit and its attached wire harness.
- Remove the protective decal from the Pro Power Kit v2 to expose the Bypass Mode wire terminals.
- Detach the doorbell wires from the internal doorbell chime and straighten the ends.
- Firmly insert the doorbell wires into the Bypass Mode holes on the Pro Power Kit v2 until they lock into place.
- Replace the cover on your internal doorbell chime.
- Turn the power back on at the breaker.
- In the Ring app, select your Ring Video Doorbell Pro, then tap the gear-shaped icon and set Doorbell Type to None.
If you ever need to remove your doorbell wires from the Pro Power Kit v2, press down on the lever on the rear to open the terminal clamps, then pull the wires straight out.

Want a New Doorbell Chime?
After successfully completing the bypass, your Ring Video Doorbell Pro should be working well. However, bypassing the internal doorbell chime means it will no longer ring when your Ring Doorbell is pressed.
You will still receive Ring and Motion Alerts on your mobile device, but if you prefer to have a dedicated, audible doorbell chime, consider adding a Ring Chime or Chime Pro to your setup.
