Controlling Ring Devices With Shared Users and Guest Users

After setting up a device, you will automatically be assigned the owner user role. As the owner, you can grant additional users access to the device by making them Shared Users or, for Alarm only, Guest Users.

  • Owner:
In addition to being able to view cameras and view and share videos, the device owner can add new Shared Users, adjust system settings and change account information.
    • If you have a Ring Alarm system, the owner can invite Shared Users and Guest Users.
    • Ring Video Doorbells, Security Cameras and Ring Alarm allow an unlimited number of Shared Users.
  • Shared User:
A Shared User cannot change system settings or account information but can view cameras and view and share videos. Access to particular cameras can be granted or denied by the owner.
    • If you have a Ring Alarm system, the Shared User can also arm and disarm* the Ring Alarm system and unlock any lock they've been given access to by the owner.
  • Guest User:
If you have a Ring Alarm system and an integrated Z-Wave lock, the Guest User can also arm and disarm* the Ring Alarm system and unlock any lock they’ve been given access to by the owner using an access code.

The lists below outline the scope of Owner, Shared User and Guest User abilities.

*Ring Alarm and all Ring Alarm accessories require a subscription for digital notifications, in-app features, digital arming/disarming, and integration with other Ring, Echo, and third party products. Subscription sold separately. View ring.com/protect-plans for pricing and details.

¹ A compatible Ring Protect subscription is required to enroll in the Ring Alarm professional monitoring service. Professional monitoring service is available only within the U.S. (all 50 states, but not U.S. territories) and in Canada (excluding Quebec). Ring does not own its own professional monitoring center. Smoke and carbon monoxide monitoring is not available for commercial properties. See Ring Alarm licenses at: https://www.ring.com/licenses.
