Finding Your Wifi Passwords

 If you’ve never changed the default password on your wifi router, look on the bottom of your router. In many cases, there is a sticker that contains the password.

Make sure to enter it exactly as it appears on this sticker during the in-app setup process, since wifi passwords are case-sensitive.

If your wifi password isn't on the bottom of your router, here are some other ways to find it.

How to find your password on a Mac

 

If you have a Mac computer, here is how to find your wifi password.

  • Click the search icon in the top right corner of your screen, and look for an application called Keychain Access.
  • Open Keychain Access
  • Click on Passwords
  • Enter the name of your wifi network in the search bar.
  • Double click the name of your wifi network
  • Click the "Show Password" checkbox.

You may be prompted to enter the password for your computer if you have one. After entering this, you’ll see the password for your wifi network.

Use this password for setting up your Ring Video Doorbell, making sure to input it exactly as it appears onscreen.

How to find your password on a Windows PC

 

The steps for finding your wifi password on a Windows PC are different on different versions of Windows. Scroll down to find the steps for the version of Windows that you're running.

Finding your password on Windows 10
  • Go to Start and select Settings > Network & Internet.
  • Choose the network you want to connect to and select Connect.
  • Select the search box in the taskbar, enter view network connections, and in the search results, select View network connections.
  • In Network Connections, press and hold (or right-click) the network name and select Status > Wireless Properties.
  • Select the Security tab and select Show characters.
  • The password for the wireless network is displayed in the Network security key field.

Finding your password on Windows 8.1

  • Swipe in from the right edge of the screen and select Settings. (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and select Settings.)
  • Select the network icon for the network you want to connect to and select Connect.
  • Swipe in from the right edge of the screen and select Search.
  • In the search box, enter "view network connections," and in the search results, select View Network Connections.
  • In the Network Connections window, press and hold (or right-click) the network name and select Status.
  • Select the Wireless Properties button.
  • Select the Security tab and select the Show characters check box.
  • The password for the wireless network is displayed in the Network security key field.

Finding your password on Windows 8

  • Swipe in from the right edge of the screen and select Settings. (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and select Settings.)
  • Select wireless network.
  • Press and hold (or right click) on a wireless network name and choose View Connection Properties.
  • Select Show characters to see the wireless network password.

Finding your password on Windows 7

  • Click the wireless network icon in the lower-right corner of the taskbar.
  • Right-click your wireless network name and select Properties.
  • Select Show characters to see the wireless network password.
How to find your password on your router's Web page

 

If you have a computer that can connect to the Internet, you can find the password by doing the following:

  • Select the search box in the taskbar, enter "cmd," and in the search results, select Command Prompt.
  • At the command prompt, enter ipconfig, and press Enter.
  • Under Wireless LAN adapter wifi, find the Default Gateway.
  • Open a web browser
  • Enter the IP address next to Default Gateway into the search bar (for example, 192.168.1.1). 
  • Enter the user name and password to open your router’s configuration webpage. Most router documentation includes the default user name and password.
  • On the configuration webpage, look for a wireless or wireless settings option.
  • Look for a security or wireless encryption setting. The security key (sometimes called a network key, pass phrase, or network password) should be listed nearby.

Different router manufacturers have different settings pages. If you can't find the wireless security key, contact the router manufacturer.
