Finding Your Wifi Password on a Mac or Windows PC

If you’ve never changed the default password on your wifi router, you can try checking the bottom or side of your router for a label with the default password listed.

Or, follow our recommended steps:

  1. Click the search icon in the top right corner of your screen.
  2. Open
    Keychain Access.
  3. Click on
    Passwords
    .
  4. Enter the name of your wifi network in the search menu.
  5. Double click the name of your wifi network.
  6. Click the "Show Password" checkbox.

You may be prompted to enter the password if you have one. After entering this, you’ll see the password for your wifi network. Use this password for setting up your Ring Video Doorbell, making sure to input it exactly as it appears.

How to find your password on a Windows PC

To find your saved password on a Windows PC, follow Microsoft's steps for more information.

If you have a computer that can connect to the Internet, you can also find the password this way:

  1. Select the search box in the taskbar, enter "cmd" and select Command Prompt.
  2. At the command prompt, enter ipconfig, and press Enter.
  3. Under Wireless LAN adapter wifi, find the Default Gateway.
  4. Open a web browser.
  5. Enter the IP address next to Default Gateway into the search bar (for example, 192.168.1.1). 
  6. Enter the user name and password to open your router’s configuration webpage. Most router documentation includes the default user name and password.
  7. On the configuration webpage, look for a wireless or wireless settings option.
  8. Look for a security or wireless encryption setting. The security key (sometimes called a network key, pass phrase, or network password) should be listed nearby.
  9. Different router manufacturers have different settings pages. If you can't find the wireless security key, contact the router manufacturer.
