Ring Video Doorbell Elite connected through ethernet on a modern home's front door.

Ring Video Doorbell Elite Setup Mode

While setting up Ring Video Doorbell Elite, you'll be asked to put the device into "Setup Mode." In order to put the device into Setup Mode, remove the faceplate press and release the black button on the upper right face of the Ring Video Doorbell Elite.

How do I know that my Ring Video Doorbell Elite is in Setup Mode?

You'll know your Doorbell Elite is in setup mode when the light on the front of the Doorbell Elite is spinning.

What is Setup Mode?

When any Ring device is in setup mode, it broadcasts a temporary wifi network.

During the setup process, the Ring app will connect to this wifi network to "tell" your Ring product how to connect to your home wifi network. As soon as your Ring product has been set up in the Ring app, it will stop broadcasting this wifi network, and stay connected to your home network.

What do I do if my Ring Doorbell Elite doesn't automatically go into Setup Mode?

Your Ring Doorbell Elite should automatically go into Setup mode the first time it receives power. If your Ring Doorbell Elite doesn't automatically go into Setup mode, you can try the following:

  • Remove the faceplate and press the black button firmly and release it without holding it down.
  • You can also turn off the power at the breaker and turn it back on.

Performing a hard reset

If the light still doesn't start spinning when you push the black button, try performing a hard reset.

To perform a hard reset, hold down the black button for 15 seconds.

After releasing it, the light on the front will flash a few times indicating that your Ring Doorbell Elite is restarting.

Give it about a minute to fully complete this process, then put it in setup mode again by briefly pressing the black button on the side.
