Ring Video Doorbell 2 on a modern home's front door.

Using the Adapter Plate Included with Your Ring Video Doorbell 2

If you have the Ring Video Doorbell (1st generation) and you would like to replace it with a Ring Video Doorbell 2, the included adapter plate will allow you to install it in the same location without having to drill new holes in your wall.

The Ring Video Doorbell has 1st and 2nd generation devices and the mounting plates are different for each of them. These instructions are for the Ring Video Doorbell (1st generation).

Note that you should set up your Ring Video Doorbell 2 in your Ring app before mounting it to your door. Tap here for information on setting up your Ring Video Doorbell 2.

1. Remove your original Ring Video Doorbell

Once you have removed the original Ring Video Doorbell and the mounting plate, place the adapter plate with it's smaller side (the beveled edge) facing the wall.

2. Use the original drill holes

You can line up the holes in the adapter plate with the holes left behind from your original Ring mounting bracket. Then use the install screws to attach the adapter plate to the wall.

3. Pull the existing wires through the adapter plate

Note: This step is only applicable if you are wiring your Ring Video Doorbell 2.

4. Tighten the short screws

Note: The short screws are not the security screws used to fasten the Ring Video Doorbell 2 to the wall.
