Question: If I hardwire my Ring Doorbell 2 to my existing doorbell, do I still have to charge the battery?
Answer: No. If your Ring Video Doorbell 2 is hardwired to an existing doorbell, that will keep it charged. If your Ring Video Doorbell 2 is not hardwired, the battery will need to be periodically recharged.
The rechargeable battery that comes included with your Ring Video Doorbell 2 will last between six months and a year before needing to be recharged. For more information about battery life and recharging your Ring Doorbell 2, visit the charging guide.
A Ring Doorbell 2 can also be connected to an existing mechanical or electronic doorbell that operates at a voltage between 8 volts AC and 24 volts AC. Once connected, pressing the button on your Ring Doorbell 2 will trigger your existing chime. The wiring from your existing doorbell will charge the battery in the Ring Video Doorbell 2, so with normal use your battery will stay charged.
