If you see the message below after you receive a Motion or Ring notification, your Internet or Wi-Fi might have gone down briefly. When this happens, you can simply disregard the message, as your Ring device should connect back on its own.
If this message pops up often, here are a few common reasons:
- Slow Internet
- Poor connection between your Ring product and wireless router
- Poor connection between your Ring app and Internet
Slow Internet can decrease your Ring products' performance. Go to ring.com/speed and test your Internet speed.
Click on the red Start button in the center of the gauge to start the test.
After the test is done, look at the small table under the gauge. Look at the download speed, which is the green number in the first column. Look at the blue number in the second column. This is the upload speed.
Look at the table below to determine your optimal speed for your Ring product.
|Ring Product||Optimal Upload Speed||Optimal Download Speed|
|Floodlight Cam||2 Mbps||2 Mbps|
|Doorbell Pro||2 Mbps||2 Mbps|
|Video Doorbell*||1 Mbps||1 Mbps|
|Stick Up Cam*||1 Mbps||1 Mbps|
*Ring Video Doorbell and Ring Stick Up Cam will work at 300 Kbps, but perform the best at 1 Mbps.
The performance of your Ring can be affected by a poor connection between your device and your router, or a poor connection between your Ring app and the Internet. Just like you can't hear someone well if they tried to talk to you through a wall or from several rooms away, it's the same if you have a poor connection.
To check to your Wi-Fi signal, open your Ring app. Select your Ring product and tap on the Device Health tile.
On the next screen, look at your Signal Strength under the Network section.
If your signal is poor or very poor, this can be caused by the distance between the router and your Ring product, the layout of your home or the material in your walls.
Your Ring product works best when it has a strong connection to your wireless router, extender or access point. A Ring Chime Pro can increase your range, enabling your Ring to perform optimally. You can purchase Ring Chime Pro here, which is specifically designed for Ring products and allows you to connect to other Ring products to help them stay online and receive Ring alerts.
