How to get Package Alerts

Package Alerts are now available on select Ring Video Doorbells, to alert you when there is a package left in a designated area near your device. To start using Package Alerts, you will need a Ring Protect Pro subscription, a Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) or a Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2.

Not sure which Ring Video Doorbell you have?

Note: Package Alerts are being rolled out to users at different times. If you don’t see the Package Alerts feature in your Ring app and your app is up to date, you will get this feature at a later date. Package Alerts work best with medium-to-large shipping boxes. Envelopes, tubes, small boxes and food deliveries may not be detected. This feature also relies on Motion Detection, so make sure you have that feature turned on.

Turning on Package Alerts

  1. Open your Ring app
  2. Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines)
  3. Go to Devices and select a compatible device
  4. Select Motion Settings > Smart Alerts
  5. Under the Package section:
    • To turn on and record your package deliveries, select the video icon
    • Follow the instructions and create your Package Zone
  6. To start getting Package Alerts, make sure you select the alert icon
  7. Customise your Package Zone by following the on-screen prompts
  8. Customise your Package Sensitivity by following the on-screen prompts

Your settings have been changed for this device. If you’d like to detect packages for your other devices, you must enable this feature in those device settings (repeat steps 1-4 above).

Customising your Package Zone

A Package Zone lets you specify the area you want your doorbell to monitor for packages. For example, if your doorbell monitors your front yard and driveway for people and motion, you can set a zone specifically for packages.

If you decide to use the default Package Zone, you can customise your Package Zone later by going to Motion Settings > Smart Alerts, then selecting Customise under the Package section.

To customise your Package Zone:

  1. Open your Ring app
  2. Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines)
  3. Go to Devices and select a compatible device
  4. Select Motion Settings > Smart Alerts
  5. Under the Package section, select Customise
  6. Follow the on-screen prompts to customise your zone
  7. Tap Done to save your changes

Note: Deliveries must be left and set down within your Package Zone to be detected. Packages are detected most reliably when left within seven feet of your Ring device.

Review Package Events in your Timeline

You can also review Package Events on your Timeline, if you miss an alert or don’t have alerts enabled. To view your Timeline, open the Ring app and select a device from your Dashboard.

Note: Usually, when a package is detected, a Package Event is added to your Timeline for you to review. However, if someone rings your doorbell or you start a Live View just after a delivery, you’ll see a Ring or Live View Event at that time instead.

Troubleshooting

Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2

The Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 requires that your transformer supplies 16-24VAC (50/60 Hz, 40VA) to activate or use Package Alerts. If you have a lower-power transformer, you may need to change your transformer to get Package Alerts.

Low Motion Sensitivity can influence your Package Alerts accuracy. Try adjusting your Motion Sensitivity settings to the highest sensitivity.

  1. Tap the three lines on the top left of your Ring app
  2. Tap Devices
  3. Tap your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation)
  4. Tap to Motion Settings > Motion Sensitivity
  5. Change your settings to maximum sensitivity

Please note, this change can affect your device’s battery life and increase the number of notifications you receive.
