What if my Contact Sensor won’t connect?

Move the Contact Sensor closer to the Base Station. If this doesn’t work, you can try to add a Range Extender between the Contact Sensor and the Base Station. If this doesn’t help, follow the steps below:

  1. Remove the cover from the device, and remove the battery.
  2. Wait a few seconds and then reinsert the battery.
-- If you get a very quick LED flash, the Contact Sensor is in-network.
-- If you get 3 blinks, the Contact Sensor is out of network.

-- If nothing happens then try replacing the battery with a new one.

What if I need to remove my Contact Sensor?

  1. In the Ring app, tap Menu, then tap Devices, then tap Alarm Base Station, then tap the sensor you wish to remove.
  2. Tap the Gear icon on the top right corner, then tap Remove, then on the next screen tap Remove again
  3. Remove the cover from the device and remove the battery from the device.
  4. Wait a few seconds and then reinsert the battery.
  5. The app will let you know the device was removed. You can remove the battery from the sensor until ready to use again.

What if I am still having trouble connecting my Contact Sensor or it adds as a Binary Sensor?

  1. Remove the cover from the device.
  2. Remove the battery from the device.
  3. In the Ring app, tap Menu, then tap Devices, then tap Alarm Base Station, then tap Base Station.
  4. Tap the Gear icon on the top right corner, then tap Advanced Options, then tap Z-Wave, then tap Remove Z-Wave Device
Note: Do not tap “Reset Z-Wave Network”. This will remove your entire Ring Alarm network and you’ll need to reset every device.
  5. Tap Remove and the app will say “Removing device, Listening for device to remove”.
  6. Insert the battery into the device. The device should be removed successfully and you may now set up the device.

If this still doesn’t work, you may need to factory reset the Contact Sensor.

How to factory reset your Contact Sensor?

If you've tried all of the above steps and you're still having difficulty with your Contact Sensor, you can try to factory reset the device. Note: This will remove device settings such as chirps and volume adjustments and reset the device back to the original default settings.

  1. Remove the cover from the device.
  2. Remove the battery from the device.
  3. Press and hold the tamper button (found near the antenna).
  4. Insert the battery while holding the tamper button. The LED light will flash. Hold the button until the LED light stops flashing, OR until you see a solid LED light.
  5. Put the cover back on the device.

If you have tried all of these steps and it still doesn’t work, we recommend reaching out to our support team for assistance.
