Persistent Visitors information for Ring Door View Cam

The Persistent Visitors feature on your Ring Door View Cam can send you a notification in the Ring app when it detects people lingering near your front door.

This article includes basic information on Persistent Visitors.

Persistent Visitors and Person Alerts

Smart Alerts let you choose whether your device records and sends notifications when it detects:

  • A person
  • Other motion

Consequently, if you choose to only be notified when a person is detected, you'll receive less unwanted notifications. This is a Ring Protect plan feature, only available to subscribers.

The Persistent Visitors setting, if enabled, will give you a different notification if people spend an extended amount of time in your camera’s field-of-view.

You have two controls for the kinds of notifications you get. Note that these controls are not mutually exclusive, you can turn on one or the other or both.

  • Always: You’ll get alerts whenever humans are detected.
  • If They Stay: You’ll get special notifications when humans stay in view for an extended period of time. You can set the length of time a person has to stay in view before the device sends the special notification.

Do you have to use the Persistent Visitors feature?

No. The Persistent Visitors feature is an optional additional feature you’ll see within Smart Alerts. You can turn it on or off as you wish, however the Persistent Visitors feature will only work while Person Alerts are on.

Does everyone have access to the Persistent Visitors feature?

No. Persistent Visitors is only accessible to customers with a Ring Door View Cam who have enabled Person Alerts.

With a subscription to Ring Protect, you'll be able to save and share your Ring videos and will have access to Person Alerts and Persistent Visitors features.
