Routines are a series of commands you can set your Alexa to perform when it is connected to a Ring device, such as a Video Doorbell or Security Camera, usually triggered by an event such as motion detection. Routines follow a simple formula: when this happens, do that. You can, for example, set Alexa to turn on your Security Cameras in the rear of the house by saying, “Alexa, I’m leaving," or set Alexa to announce "Motion at the front door" when your Video Doorbell detects motion.

Create a routine using Alexa
To create a routine in the Alexa app on your mobile device.
- Open the Alexa app on your mobile device.
- Tap More in the bottom right corner.
- Select Routines from the menu.
- Tap the plus sign (+) to Create Routine.
- On the next screen, tap Enter Routine Name.
- Type out a new routine name and then tap Next.
- Tap on When This Happens and tap Smart Home, then select the Ring device you are creating the routine for.
- Select which capability you'd like to set up.
- Select Add action, and then choose which action it completes.
- To receive a push notification when motion or contact sensor is triggered, select Notification.
- Tap Save.
Note: To modify or delete a routine, go to the Routines section in the Alexa app. Choose a routine listed in the Enabled section to make your changes.
Create a routine for snoozing ring and motion alerts on your Alexa device
Follow these steps for snoozing alerts from your Ring Video Doorbell or Security Camera.
- Open the Alexa app on your mobile device.
- Tap More in the bottom right corner.
- Tap Routines.
- Tap the plus sign (+) to Create Routine.
- On the next screen, tap Enter Routine Name.
- Type out a new routine name (Example: Snooze Ring Alerts) and then tap Next
- Tap When This Happens and then tap Voice.
- Type out the phrase: Alexa, snooze alerts.
- Tap Next.
- On the next screen, tap Action in the top right corner.
- Tap Add Action.
- Scroll down and tap Device Settings and then tap Do Not Disturb.
- Tap On and select the Alexa devices for which you’d like to snooze alerts, or tap All Devices to select all.
- Tap the box next to Duration.
- Manually select how long you’d like to stop alerts on your Alexa device(s).
- Tap Next and then tap Save.
- Wait at least 1 minute for the voice routine to be ready to use.
