Upgrading, Changing, or Canceling your Ring Protect Plan

Ring Protect Plan is an optional plan that covers video recording services for Ring devices. In addition, the Ring Protect Plus Plan covers professional monitoring if you have a Ring Alarm system.

Ring Protect Basic Plan covers devices individually. Ring Protect Plus Plan covers all of the devices at one location. Ring Protect Basic and Ring Protect Plus Plans can be paid monthly or yearly. Ring Alarm system is the one exception. If you have Ring Protect Plus Plan and want professional monitoring for your Ring Alarm system, you must pay for the yearly plan.

Note: If you are eligible for a refund, the refund amount will automatically go back onto the original card you used within 3-5 business days.

Note: If you no longer have the debit or credit card that was on the Ring account, please contact your financial institution to find out how you will receive your refund.

Will my plan be automatically renewed if it runs out?
Yes. As long as we have a valid credit card on file, you will be automatically renewed at the end of your subscription period. If your card on file is not valid, you will receive email notifications from us alerting you that your card needs to be updated.

If I upgrade from Ring Protect Basic yearly to Ring Protect Plus yearly, how will I be charged?
You will receive a prorated refund for any amount left on your Ring Protect Basic yearly plan(s). The Ring Protect Plus Plan will be charged immediately and you will begin a new billing cycle. Once you have 4 or more Ring devices, the Ring Protect Plus Plan is more economical than covering each device individually with the Ring Protect Basic Plan.

If I add a new product to my account and add another Ring Protect Basic yearly plan, how will I be charged?
When you add a new device to your account and get an additional Ring Protect Basic plan, you will be charged a prorated rate for the remaining difference in months between your new product's inception date and the old product's billing date (after the 30-day trial ends). This will get both products on the same billing cycle. Once the yearly plan billing date comes around again, both products will be charged for a year.

As an example: Device A is subscribed on January 1, 2020 for $30, that means the next billing date is January 1, 2021. Device B is subscribed on July 1, 2020 for a Basic yearly plan. On July 1, 2020, you will pay $15 for Device B for the period from July 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021. On January 1, 2021, you will be charged $60 for both devices and they both will renew on the same billing cycle going forward.

If I add a new device to my Ring Protect Plus account, how will I be charged?
If your Ring device is being added at the same location, it is automatically added to your Ring Protect Plus Plan coverage and there are no extra charges. Ring Protect Plus covers all devices at a single location. If you are setting up a device at a separate location, you will have to pay for an additional Ring Protect Plan for the new location.

Yearly Plans

If you cancel your yearly Ring Protect Basic yearly plan or your Ring Protect Plus yearly plan at any time during your subscription period, your yearly plan will be prorated over 12 months based on the month the plan was activated.

If you cancel after a new month has started, you will be charged for the entire month's subscription fee. Then, you will be eligible for a refund or credit of the remainder of your yearly subscription fee

Monthly Plans

You can cancel your monthly Ring Protect Plan at any time during your subscription period. However, monthly plans are not eligible for prorated refunds.

I just got a replacement device after troubleshooting with Ring, but my subscription and/or videos did not transfer over.
This process should be automatic as long as the old device was not deleted from your account before the new device was set up and the transfer took place. If the old Ring device has been deleted already, but the videos and/or the subscription did not transfer over, please click here to Contact Us.

I just bought and installed a new Ring device to replace an old one. My old device had a plan. How do I get a plan on my new Ring device?
If you have the Ring Protect Plus Plan, your new device will automatically be included in the Ring Protect Plus Plan.

If you have the Ring Protect Basic Plan, you'll need to get a new plan for the new device. Your previous subscription is attached to the other device and the subscription and videos that are stored won't automatically transfer over to the new device.

First, go into your account and save or download any videos that you may want from your old device. After that, go into your Ring account at ring.com and cancel your plan so you can get a refund.

Note: If you are eligible for a refund, the refund amount will automatically go back onto the original card you used within 3-5 business days.

Note: If you no longer have the debit or credit card that was on the Ring account, please contact your financial institution to find out how you will receive your refund.

How do I downgrade from Ring Protect Plus to Ring Protect Basic?
If you want to downgrade your Ring Protect Plus plan to a Ring Protect Basic plan, you must cancel the Ring Protect Plus Plan and subscribe to the Basic plan. Be sure to download any recordings that you want before you cancel your plan. Follow the instructions on this page to Cancel Your Ring Protect Plan, and then resubscribe.

You will get a refund for a prorated portion of the Ring Protect Plus yearly plan if you are eligible for one. The refund will be credited to the original form of payment within 3-5 business days. There are no prorated refunds for monthly plans. The new Ring Protect Basic plan will be charged immediately and you will start a new billing cycle.

If I am a Shared User on a location, can I upgrade or change a Ring Protection Plan subscription?
No. Only the person designated as Owner of a location (address) can alter a Ring Protection Plan. The Owner is the person that originally installed the device on their mobile device.
