Live View for Video Doorbells and Security Cameras

Learn how to watch live video from your Ring Video Doorbell or Security Camera for up to 10 minutes at a time in the Ring app or from Ring.com.

Live View is available to Ring app users and Shared Users without a subscription.

Reviewing previously recorded video on your Ring Video Doorbells and Security Cameras requires a Ring Home subscription. Only events that occur after you have subscribed will be recorded. Past events might appear in your history, but you cannot view or recover them.


How to use Live View in the Ring app

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap on a doorbell or camera preview screen.
  3. Press
    Tap to Go Live
    .
  4. Tap
    End Live
    or close screen.

Using Live View from your account on Ring.com

  1. Click the doorbell or camera preview.
  2. Click
    End Live View
    or close screen.

Features available during Live View

Two-way talk

Two-way talk allows you to speak with visitors through your Ring device during Live View. By default, your device will play incoming sounds and your microphone will be muted when Live View is activated.

  • Tap the microphone button to speak with visitors. Tap it again to mute yourself.
  • Tap the speaker button to control incoming audio from your Ring device.

Siren

The siren on your Ring camera can act as a warning to others. This feature is only available on select security cameras. You can turn the siren on manually when Live View is activated.

  1. Tap the siren icon during Live View to start a 25-second siren.
  2. Tap it again to stop the siren early.

The siren volume is fixed and cannot be changed.

Lights

Toggle your camera’s lights on and off when Live View is activated. This feature is only available on select security cameras.

  1. Tap the lightbulb icon to turn lights on.
  2. Tap it again to turn lights off.

Replies

Your Ring device can play automated voice messages when Live View is activated. To use them:

  1. Tap the Replies icon.
  2. Tap on a category.
  3. Select the message you want to play.

Live View features that require a Ring Home Plan

Picture-in-Picture (PiP)

If you’re using Live View and need to navigate away from the Ring app, you can continue viewing the live video in a small window in the corner of your screen using Live View Picture-in-Picture.

This feature requires a Ring Home Standard or Premium subscription.

Extended Live View

Extended Live View1 records Live View for up to 30 minutes at a time.

This feature requires a Ring Home Standard or Premium subscription.

Continuous Live View

Continuous Live View2 lets you tune in to what’s happening live on your eligible cameras, continuously.

This feature requires a Ring Home Premium subscription.

Multi-Cam Live View

Multi-Cam Live View on Ring.com lets you watch Live View from up to four Ring devices at a single location at the same time.

This feature requires a Ring Home Standard or Premium subscription.

Turn on Camera Preview for Live View

If you want to see Live View instead of recent events when you tap camera previews on the Ring app dashboard, toggle on Camera Preview.

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Tap the more icon
    (•••)
    on the camera preview tile.
  3. Tap your device's
    Settings
    at the bottom.
  4. Tap the
    Device Settings
    tile.
  5. Tap
    Video Settings
    .
  6. Toggle on or off
    Tap Camera Preview for Live View
    .

Live View and Shared Users

If you've shared your Ring camera or doorbell with a friend or family member, they will be able to access Live View at any time.
