Controlling your Floodlight Cam through the Ring app

Every aspect of your Floodlight Cam’s operation can be controlled through your Ring app. This article will detail your Floodlight Cam’s functions as well as how to find and control it in the Ring app.  

Device Dashboard

The Device Dashboard can be considered your home page for controlling your device. This is the control panel that first appears when you open your Ring app and select your Floodlight Cam.

The controls available on the dashboard are:

Lights

Toggle this control on and off to manually control the floodlights.

Motion Alerts

This will turn your notifications for activity in any of the camera’s Motion Zones on and off.

Siren

This is a trigger that will activate the device's siren.

Live View

Tap Live View to open a live video stream from your Floodlight Cam.

While in the live video stream you will have access to the following features:

  • Begin Two-Way Talk: You can speak to visitors and hear what they say.
  • End Two Way Talk.
  • Siren: Activate the siren.
  • Lights: Turn the floodlights on and off.

Event History

Tapping Event History brings you to a screen where you can review video footage of any alerts you’ve received.

Device Health

Tapping Device Health brings you to a new panel that contains all of the operational information on your Ring Floodlight Cam. If something goes wrong, the information and tools on this page will help you solve it.

Network

  • Signal Strength: This tells you how strong the wifi signal going to your Floodlight Cam is.
  • Network Name: The name of the wifi network your Floodlight Cam is attached to.
  • Change Wifi Network: This tool will allow you change the wifi network that your Floodlight Cam is attached to.
    • Note: You should be near your Floodlight Cam and have your wifi password handy.

Device Details

  • Last Health Check: This is the last time the information on this screen has been updated.
  • Mac Address: The network location of your device. Ring Community Support may ask you for this while troubleshooting. If you ever have to do anything complicated, like assign a static IP to your Floodlight Cam, or open a port in your firewall you’ll need the Mac Address for that.
  • Firmware: This lists the version of your Floodlight Cam’s software. Your Floodlight Cam will Automatically update when new versions of the software are released.

Tools

  • Test Your Wifi: This leads to an online bandwidth test that will let you know the upload and download speeds of your wifi network. Note that this tool will close your Ring app and open up your Web browser.
  • Troubleshoot Alerts: This will take you to an article detailing how to solve many of the most common problem with your in-app notifications.
  • Ring System Status: This control gives you an overview of health of the the entire Ring system. In the unlikely event of an operational failure on our end that negatively affects your Floodlight Cam, you’ll see notice of it here.
  • Device Health Report: In the case of an issue with your Floodlight Cam, this will open a help article that can assist you in resolving the issue on your own.

Light Settings

  • Light Settings: Here you can schedule your lights to turn on from a particular time to a particular time.
  • Advanced Settings: Here you can customise the areas that will trigger the lights to turn on at night and change how long they stay on for.

Motion Settings

Tapping Motion Settings brings up your motion detection control panel. From here you can customise your motion detection preferences.

  • Motion Sensitivity slider: This slider adjusts the amount of alerts you receive.
  • Motion Zones: This brings up a live view from the camera. Use this image to draw up to three custom areas where you’d like to receive motion alerts and trigger the lights to go on.

  • Motion Schedule. Schedule times when you don’t want to receive motion alerts. This is useful for recurring events that you don’t want to trigger the camera. For example if you know that rubbish pickup happens every Tuesday between 7 and 9AM, you can set a motion schedule so that you don’t receive notifications for motion events during that time frame.

Linked Chimes

If you have a Ring Chime, you can set it to go off when your Floodlight Cam detects motion.

Shared Users

This allows you to give friends or family members access to your Ring Floodlight Cam. If they already have a Ring account, enter the email address of their Ring account. Otherwise they’ll receive an invitation to create a new account.
