Adjusting the video recording length for wired devices

Ring devices have been designed so that they’re customisable for your lifestyle and security needs. The length of time that you choose represents the maximum amount of time your camera or doorbell will record an event.

This article will explain the various options you have for recording lengths and answer some commonly asked questions.

Video recording lengths for wired devices

Wired (hardwired and mounted) devices are Ring products which do not include a battery for operation.

The following wired devices have the capability to adjust recording length settings:

  • Ring Video Doorbell Pro
  • Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2
  • Ring Video Doorbell Elite
  • Ring Floodlight Cam
  • Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro
  • Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus
  • Ring Spotlight Cam Wired

In the Ring app, you can specify how long your Ring device will record If there’s a Motion Event that you don’t respond to.

You have four recording length options:

  1. 50 seconds
  2. 60 seconds (default setting)
  3. 90 seconds
  4. 120 seconds

How to change your video recording length

To change your video recording length:

  • Open your Ring app.
  • Tap the three lines on the top left of the Dashboard.
  • Tap on Devices.
  • Tap the device you want to adjust.
  • Tap Device Settings.
  • Tap Video Settings.
  • Tap Video Recording Length.
  • Select the amount of time you want your Ring device to record.

What is the default recording length?

The default recording length for powered devices is 60 seconds.

Why would I shorten my recording time?

There are many reasons why you might lower your video recording length. You might be trying to preserve your battery if you have children running in front of a camera or doorbell or have guests coming and don’t really need long recordings.

Why would I extend my recording time?

You might extend your video recording length if there’s something happening in your neighbourhood that is causing concern or if you are away from home as extra protection.

If I change video recording length on one device, does it change on all my devices?

No. Each of your devices needs to be changed individually. Unless one of your devices is changed in Video Settings, the default recording time will be 20 seconds.
