General questions
Do I need a wifi connection to set up and use my Ring device?
Yes. Ring products require an existing home wifi network for setup and use, a smart device (phone or tablet) and the Ring app, which allows you to control all the functions of your Ring devices.
All Ring devices are compatible with 2.4 GHz networks. Some Ring devices are able to use 5 GHz networks.
Ring products are designed to work with your home wifi network. Your Ring devices will not work with a mobile phone hotspot. Ring products do not support Bluetooth.
By hooking up to your wifi, Ring products use the free Ring app (available for Apple and Android devices) to alert you whenever someone approaches your door or comes in a range of a Security Camera. You can then view an HD video stream of the person and speak to them using two-way audio communication. The free Ring app also allows you to control all the other functions of your Ring devices such as floodlights and sirens and video recording. Put simply, with Ring products, you're always home.

Powering your Ring device
Do Ring devices require power wires to work?
It depends. Some Ring Video Doorbells and Security Cameras are battery-powered and their batteries will last several months with normal use before needing to be recharged.
Battery-powered doorbells can be wired to your existing doorbell system, but they only receive a trickle-charge from the wiring and are primarily powered by the battery. Doorbell solar chargers also provide a trickle charge to battery devices.
Some Ring Video Doorbells and Security Cameras are hardwired only, meaning they need to be hooked up to your home's existing wiring or powered via a Plug-In Adapter.
Check the specifications for each product for a list of power options.
Which doorbell transformers are compatible with Ring Video Doorbells?
Check ring.com/hardwired for compatibility information for Ring doorbells.
Do not use a halogen, garden-lighting transformer or any DC power supply not made by or certified by Ring.
Do I have to turn off the power in my house before installing a Ring device?
Always follow the safety instructions in your Ring device manual. Turn off the power before working with electrical wires.
WARNING: Electrical shock hazard. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician. Refer to your local laws and building codes before performing electrical work. Disconnect power to installation area at circuit breaker or fuse box before beginning installation.
Do I have to charge my battery prior to setting up and installing my Ring doorbell?
Your Ring doorbell comes with a partially charged battery. The battery should have enough charge to set up the doorbell. However, if you have had multiple failed set up attempts, you may need to fully charge the battery before you can complete the setup.
If you’re hardwiring a battery-powered doorbell you still need to charge your battery to 100% for the best performance. Hardwiring only provides a trickle charge to battery-powered doorbells.
If the device uses a battery, how long does it take the battery to recharge?
Depending on the device, it should take 4-10 hours for a battery to fully recharge.
How long can my Ring device run on its internal battery?
Assuming that the Ring device has a battery and is not a hardwired only device, it should last for several months depending on the level of use and operating environment.
Will I be notified when the battery in my Ring device is running low?
Yes. You'll receive email reminders when your battery runs low. The Ring app also features a low-battery warning, as well as a battery level indicator that you can check at any time.
