You can connect your Amazon Echo Show, Fire TV, or Fire Tablet to your Ring device and use Alexa voice commands to do the following and more:
- Answer your door (and receive chime notifications on your Alexa-enabled device)
- Speak to your visitors
- Get a live view from your Video Doorbell or Security Camera feed (only for compatible devices with screen display)
- Arm and disarm your modes
- Play recent motion clips from your doorbell or camera (only for compatible devices with screen display)
Connect your Ring device to your Alexa-enabled device
You may also need to update your mobile device's operating system.
Next, follow these steps to add Ring as a Skill in the Alexa app:
- Open the Alexa app and tap the More icon (three horizontal lines) at the bottom right corner
- Tap Skills & Games
- Tap the Search icon (magnifying glass) at the top right corner
- Type Ring into the search field
- Tap Ring (first result)
- Tap Enable to Use
- On the next screen, sign in with your Ring login credentials to link your Ring account with your Amazon account
- Tap Enable Skill and Link Accounts, or Enable Skill if your Ring and Amazon accounts are already linked
- Once the Skill is enabled, tap Discover Devices
- Alexa will be enabled on all of your Ring devices. To disable Alexa from a particular device, tap the Devices, tap All Devices, tap the device you wish to disable and then scroll down to toggle Enabled to Disabled
Note: Ensure your Ring device works as expected before connecting it with your Alexa-enabled device.
Note: If your Ring devices do not appear after you tap Discover Devices, you can say, “Alexa, discover my devices,” or tap the Devices icon at the in the footer of the Alexa app.
Activate chime notifications on your Alexa-enabled device
Once you’ve connected your Ring doorbell to your Alexa-enabled device, you can set up chime notifications to get an alert on your Echo or Fire TV device when someone presses your doorbell.
Follow these steps to get chime notifications:
- Open the Alexa app and tap the Devices icon in the footer
- Tap All Devices at the top
- Tap your Video Doorbell
- Tap Doorbell Press Announcements to enable the feature
Note: Make sure each Alexa device you enable for chime notifications has Communication and Announcements enabled and the Do Not Disturb feature turned off in the Alexa app.
Answer the door with Alexa
After you’ve connected your Ring doorbell to your Alexa-enabled device, you can answer the door and speak to your visitors through your Echo or Fire TV device.
To speak to your visitor, you can say:
- Alexa, talk to [Ring Doorbell Name].
- Alexa, answer [Ring Doorbell Name].
Get a live view from your Ring Video Doorbell or Security Camera with Alexa
If you have an Echo Show, Fire TV, or Fire Tablet, you can use Alexa commands to view the live video stream from your Ring doorbell or security camera.
To get a live view from your Ring camera, you can say:
- Alexa, show [Ring Device Name].
- Alexa, show my [Front Door]
To stop the live video feed, you can say:
- Alexa, hide [Ring Device Name].
- Alexa, hide [Front Door].
- Alexa, stop.
- Alexa, go Home.
Note: "Front Door" is an example and may differ from the location labels that you assigned to your device(s) during setup. Other examples - back garden, side door, garage, etc.
Arm and disarm your modes
You can ask your Alexa-enabled device to change modes to armed or disarmed for your Ring Video Doorbells and Security Cameras.
Play recent motion clips with Alexa
If you have a compatible Echo device with a screen display, Fire TV, or Fire Tablet and a Ring Protect subscription, you can ask Alexa to play the most recent motion clip captured by your Ring Video Doorbell or Security Camera.
To view and control the recording, you can say:
- Alexa, show me the last activity from [Ring Device Name].
- Alexa, show me the most recent activity from [Front Door].
- Alexa, fast-forward.
- Alexa, fast-forward 10 seconds.
- Alexa, fast-forward 1 minute.
- Alexa, rewind.
- Alexa, rewind 10 seconds.
- Alexa, rewind 1 minute.
- Alexa, pause.
- Alexa, play.
Note: This feature is only available with a Ring Protect subscription plan.
Ring and Alexa troubleshooting tips
- If your Ring device’s battery is low, it may take up to 30 seconds or longer to “wake up” after receiving a command. Ensure your device has a continuous charge with a rechargeable Quick Release Battery Pack.
- If your Alexa-enabled device takes a long time connecting to your Ring device (or can’t connect at all), you may need to extend your wifi network with a Chime Pro to boost the device signals.
