My video recording stops after 20 seconds

The Ring app has a feature which will automatically end a recording after a Ring device stops detecting motion. This feature prevents getting recordings where nothing is happening in the video. Battery-operated devices have a default setting of 20 seconds, this preserves battery life and data charges.

Ring devices have been designed so that they’re customisable to your lifestyle and security needs. The length of time that you choose represents the maximum amount of time your security camera or doorbell will record an event.

Video recording lengths for battery-powered Ring devices

You can specify how long your Ring device will record a Motion Event that you don’t respond to. If you want to prolong your device's battery life, you can choose a shorter length of time. If you want longer videos of Motion Events and aren’t as concerned about battery life, choose a longer time length.

There are seven recording length options:

  • 15 seconds
  • 20 seconds (default setting)
  • 25 seconds
  • 30 seconds
  • 60 seconds
  • 90 seconds
  • 120 seconds
