My Video Recording Stops After 20 Seconds

My Video Recording Stops After 20 Seconds

Question: I've noticed that my Ring video recordings have recently gotten much shorter, sometimes only lasting 20 seconds. Why is this happening and is there something wrong with my Ring device?

Answer: Good news! There is nothing wrong with your Ring device. Ring recently implemented a feature in your Video Recordings called "Motion Stop".This feature automatically stops the recording after a Ring device starts detecting motion. The devices stop after 20 seconds for battery-operated devices even if physically installed as hardwired, and 60 seconds for hardwired devices without a battery option. This saves on battery life and data charges.

Battery-operated devices include:

  • Ring Video Doorbell
  • Ring Video Doorbell 2
  • Ring Door View Cam
  • Ring Stick Up Cam Battery
  • Ring Spotlight Cam Battery
  • Ring Spotlight Cam Solar

Powered devices include:

  • Ring Pro
  • Ring Elite
  • Ring Floodlight Cam
  • Ring Spotlight Cam Wired
  • Ring Stick Up Cam Wired
