Setting Up Ring Cameras to Record When Alarm is Triggered

You can set any Ring Camera device to start recording the instant your Alarm is triggered.

When your Ring Alarm or Ring Alarm Pro system is triggered, every second counts and there’s no guarantee that an intruder will be in front of a camera when the time comes.

If you’ve replaced your existing Base Station or Alarm Pro Base Station with a new one, you must re-establish links with your new device.

How to set Linked Devices to start recording when Alarm is triggered

  1. Open the
    Ring app
    .
  2. Tap the
    menu
    (≡)
on the left side of your
    Dashboard
    .
  3. Tap

  4. Tap

    .
  5. Tap
    Base Station
    or
    Alarm Pro Base Station.
  6. Tap
    Linked Devices
    .
  7. Press
    Tap here to link devices
to adjust what happens when the alarm sounds.
  8. Select the devices you wish to begin recording video when an alarm is triggered or begins entry delay.

¹ Your Ring videos stored in the cloud are stored temporarily for up to 180 days when subscribed to a Ring Protect plan. Changing your video storage time will only affect videos that are recorded after you adjust your storage time setting. Check Ring Protect Subscription Plans for more information.

Ring takes recurring photo snapshots throughout the day so you can see what is happening between motion-activated events (videos) in your Event History Timeline. These photos are stored in your account for up to 7 days. To keep important photos beyond 7 days, download them to your PC or mobile device.
